Latest Updates
Tuesday, 30 April 2019 05:04 AM Production of the Tata Sumo Gold ceased in April 2019, marking the end of a 25-year production run for the Tata Sumo series. The vehicle was replaced by the Tata Harrier in the companys lineup. This move signaled a shift towards more modern and feature-rich SUVs. I think this was a necessary step for Tata to stay competitive in the evolving Indian automotive market.
Saturday, 20 April 2019 06:00 PM The Tata Sumo Gold was available in three colors: Porcelain White, Arctic White, and Platinum Silver. The vehicles design, though not modern, retained its rugged and robust appeal, which was a hallmark of the Sumo series. I think the color options were adequate for its target market.
Monday, 15 April 2019 07:17 AM In April 2019, Tata Motors offered benefits worth Rs 33,000 on the 2018 models of the Tata Sumo Gold as part of their April offers. This was an attempt to clear out remaining stock before the models discontinuation. I think such offers helped in clearing inventory and attracting last-minute buyers.
Tuesday, 15 October 2013 04:25 AM In October 2013, Tata Motors introduced a facelift for the Sumo Gold, which included updates such as a new radio CD and MP3 player, dual-zone air conditioning, and new exterior colors and stickers. These changes were aimed at attracting younger buyers and keeping the model fresh. I believe these updates helped extend the life of the Sumo Gold in a rapidly changing market.
Friday, 12 July 2013 07:12 AM The Sumo Gold featured a special suspension system designed to handle larger loads and maintain stability, which was particularly useful for Indian road conditions. The vehicles ground clearance of 182 mm also helped in navigating rough terrain. I believe this suspension system was a key factor in its durability.
Wednesday, 05 June 2013 01:26 AM The Tata Sumo Gold had a seating capacity of 10 people and was known for its efficient mileage, ranging from 10.6 to 15.3 km/l. This made it a practical choice for both personal and commercial use. I think the combination of space and fuel efficiency was a major selling point.
Wednesday, 29 May 2013 05:53 PM In early 2013, Tata Motors announced plans to launch facelifts for several models, including the Sumo Gold, Indigo eCS, and Nano. These updates were part of Tatas HorizoNext campaign aimed at refreshing their product lineup. This move indicated Tatas commitment to keeping their models relevant. I believe such periodic updates are crucial for maintaining customer interest.
Thursday, 15 March 2012 11:51 AM The Tata Sumo Gold came with a robust build and several safety features, including fog lamps, a decent braking system, and side intrusion beams. These features enhanced the vehicles stability and safety, making it a reliable choice for Indian roads. I think the emphasis on safety was a positive move by Tata.
Friday, 10 February 2012 06:49 PM The Sumo Gold was priced in the range of Rs 5.26 lakh to Rs 8.93 lakh (ex-showroom) and was available in several variants, including CX, EX, and GX. It competed with vehicles like the Mahindra Bolero and Maruti Suzuki Eeco. The pricing strategy helped it remain a viable option in the Indian market. I believe the competitive pricing was key to its continued sales.
Friday, 20 January 2012 02:30 AM The Tata Sumo Gold was launched in January 2012, featuring a 3.0-liter CR4 diesel engine with common rail and direct injection, producing 85 horsepower and 250 Nm of torque. This engine upgrade significantly improved the vehicles performance. The interior also saw improvements with new fabrics, air conditioning controls, and instrumentation. I think this engine was a highlight of the Sumo Gold, making it more appealing to buyers.

Tata Sumo Gold (2019) Review

Expert Review by Maxabout

One of the biggest car makers in the world is Tata Motors Limited formerly called TELCO. It is an Indian transnational automotive manufacturing company that is based in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. It is a subsidiary of the Tata Group, a company that manufactures trucks, passenger cars, vans, buses, coaches, and military vehicles. According to survey, it is the second-largest bus manufacturer by volume, fourth-largest truck manufacturer and eighteenth-largest motor vehicle manufacturing company in the world. Tata Sumo got its name from a man who made it possible for Tata to do a number of revolutionary changes to the company. From TELCO, Tata became world famous because of Mr. Sumant Moolgaonkar so Tata’s new model was named Su Mo which is his initials as a form of appreciation for the significant progress he contributed. From the original name Sumo, the company decided to make it Sumo Victa and later on change it to Sumo Gold. It used to be Sumo the top selling car in India, even whipping the Maruti 800 to the corner. Although it is not as hot as it was first released, Tata Sumo Gold will always be one of the well-loved cars in India with performance like that of a war horse.

Tata Motors has launched new Sumo and has dropped the 'Victa' suffix from the name; it will be now sold as 'Sumo Gold' instead of 'Sumo Victa'. Sumo Gold is almost same in terms of looks and styling in comparison to Sumo Victa. There are some minor changes like new front grille, rear wiper and new fog lamps. But still Sumo looks very boxy and unappealing in comparison to Mahindra Bolero which is much better in terms of looks, styling and interiors. Also, the name changing strategy of Tata is not good, they recently dropped the Indica tag from Indica Vista and Indigo tag from Indigo. The interiors of Sumo Gold are also same except new music system and new buttons for HVAC controls. Sumo Gold has two engine options; both are diesel and very fuel efficient. It is available in seven variants – 4 have CR4 engine and 3 have TCIC engine. The base model of Sumo Gold is priced at Rs. 5.04 lakhs (ex-showroom New Delhi). Tata Sumo Gold comes with 2 options of seating - 7-seater and 9-seater.

UPDATE (19th June, 2013) -

Tata Motors has launched the 2013 Sumo Gold in Indian market. As per the company it comes with host of new styling, safety and comfort features. First and foremost it is now available in 2 new shades: Twilight Grey and Blazing Red. Other than this, it comes equipped with all-new wheel covers and new body graphics. On the inside, it comes with all-new USB compatible and Bluetooth music system, dual AC, wood finish center console, new grab rail, mobile phone holder and tubeless tyres.

Exterior

Tata Sumo Gold is a new version of sports utility vehicle that is a stronger version of its predecessor. It has been made with an eye-catching strong masculine look. The front end of the Tata Sumo Gold features a front light with a new style. The car’s logo is elaborated with a black lattice and a long body highlighted grille which is an invigorating revision from the old design. The grille is emphasized with a thin chrome plate that runs along the vehicle, linking the two headlamp boards on which the word GOLD is engraved. The bright fog lamps located at the front plus the rear fog lamps prevents accidents during foggy or dusty weathers. The fashionable wheel caps yield more toughness to the external look. The lateral view of this sports utility vehicle is embellished with graphics to give it an energetic appearance. The dark tinted windows along with its body painted door handles enhance the car’s deluxe appeal. Tata Sumo Gold can accommodate a spare wheel below the cabin unlike most vehicles where the spare where is hanging out on the fifth door which can be somehow unpleasant to look at. The radial tires of this vehicle offer a higher ground clearance of 190 millimetres that gives a smooth driving experience.

Interior

Aside from Tata Sumo Gold’s classy exterior design, its interiors are also good as it has Electronic Multi-Trip meter and fabric upholstery that is matched with its sporty elegant style. At the front, the car is installed with a Digital Clock, Glove Compartment and Digital Odometer. The third row seats are well cushioned and supported with a grab handle especially for passengers with special needs. New features of 2013 Sumo Gold are dual AC, mobile phone holder, new grab rail, wood-finish center console and USB plus Bluetooth compatible music system.
