Tata Nano Diesel CX

About
The Tata Nano, particularly the CX variant, is a compact, rear-engine, rear-wheel drive car designed to maximize space and minimize costs. It features a 624cc two-cylinder engine, which, although not powerful, is peppy in city driving conditions. The interior is spacious, with excellent headroom and legroom, despite its small footprint. However, it lacks storage space, has a small fuel tank, and no glove box. The car is easy to maneuver in traffic and has a modern, though basic, interior design. The AC works well, and the car is known for its fuel efficiency and low running costs. While it is not ideal for highway driving due to its limited power and stability issues at high speeds, it is an excellent choice for city commuters looking for an affordable and efficient vehicle.

USER OPINION

Our take on this /// Verdict
The Tata Nano Diesel CX, although it was never actually released to the market, would have been an intriguing option for those seeking a highly fuel-efficient and affordable vehicle. Based on the petrol version, the Nano is best suited for city driving due to its peppy engine in lower gears and excellent maneuverability in tight spaces. However, it has several drawbacks, including poor NVH levels, limited high-speed stability, and a lack of safety features such as crumple zones. The non-assisted steering can be cumbersome in city traffic, and the suspension, though improved in later models, still transmits road irregularities into the cabin. Despite these issues, the Nanos innovative design, spacious interior, and fuel efficiency make it a commendable choice for urban commuters.
Price
The Tata Nano, in its petrol variants, was priced very competitively in the Indian market. For the CX variant, the ex-showroom price was around Rs. 2,07,218 in Mumbai, as of 2012. On-road prices varied by location but generally added another Rs. 20,000 to Rs. 30,000 due to taxes and registration fees. If the diesel variant had been released, it would likely have been priced similarly or slightly higher, given the additional cost of diesel engine technology. However, since the diesel version never materialized, these prices are speculative but give an idea of what to expect from Tatas pricing strategy for such models.
Mileage
Friday, 22 November 2024 09:46 AM The Tata Nano, known for its fuel efficiency, boasted an ARAI-certified mileage of 23.1 kmpl for the petrol version. If a diesel variant had been produced, it would likely have offered even better mileage, potentially exceeding 30 kmpl, given the general fuel efficiency of diesel engines. This would have made the Nano an excellent choice for those concerned about running costs, especially in urban driving conditions where fuel efficiency is crucial.

The Nano EV is equipped with a 72V architecture and super polymer lithium-ion batteries. It has a maximum range of 160 km on a single charge and the company claims it can reach 60 km/h in under 10 seconds. Ratan Tata first tested the car in August 2020, and he was so impressed with its performance that he decided to gift it to himself. This is a great example of how electric cars are becoming more popular and accessible.
