About
The Maruti Suzuki Alto LX is a compact hatchback designed for the Indian markets specific needs. Powered by a 796 cc petrol engine producing 40.36 to 47.33 bhp and 60 to 69 Nm of torque, it is paired with a 5-speed manual transmission. The car is known for its light controls, making it easy to drive in city traffic. It features basic yet essential amenities such as air conditioning, central locking, and keyless entry. The Alto LX also boasts a surprisingly stable ride and good visibility thanks to its large glass areas. However, it lacks in terms of interior space and build quality. Despite these limitations, the Alto LX remains a popular choice for its reliability, low maintenance costs, and excellent fuel economy, making it an ideal vehicle for small families and first-time car owners.

Our take on this /// Verdict
The Maruti Suzuki Alto LX is a stalwart in the Indian automotive market, particularly for those seeking a reliable and economical entry-level vehicle. My experience with this car has been overwhelmingly positive, especially considering its robust mechanical package and problem-free ownership. The Alto LX excels in its fuel economy, ease of handling, and effective air-conditioning system. However, it does have some drawbacks, such as cramped interiors, a super-light body with flimsy build quality, and ineffective stopping power at highway speeds. Despite these, the Alto LX remains a top choice for its low maintenance costs, wide service network, and overall performance. It is an excellent option for small families or first-time car buyers looking for a budget-friendly and efficient vehicle.
Price
The Maruti Suzuki Alto LX, although discontinued, was priced competitively in the Indian market. When it was available, the prices ranged from Rs. 3.54 lakh to Rs. 5.13 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), depending on the variant and fuel type. On-road prices would typically add another Rs. 50,000 to Rs. 70,000, including registration, insurance, and other costs. This pricing made the Alto LX an attractive option for budget-conscious buyers. The affordability and the wide range of variants, including CNG options, further enhanced its appeal.
Mileage

The Maruti Suzuki Alto LX offers impressive mileage, making it a great choice for those concerned about running costs. The petrol variant delivers a claimed mileage of 22.05 to 24.7 kmpl, while the CNG variant offers up to 31.59 kmkg. In real-world conditions, users have reported mileage close to these figures, making the Alto LX a fuel-efficient option for daily commuting and long drives alike.
