Mahindra Quanto Diesel C8

About
The Mahindra Quanto C8 is a compact SUV based on the Mahindra Xylo platform, designed to capitalize on the lower excise duty benefits for vehicles under four meters in length. It features a 1493cc inline-3 cylinder diesel engine, known as the mCR100, which produces 98.6bhp and 24.5kgm of torque. The engine is smooth and refined, with minimal turbo lag and good acceleration. The Quanto comes in four variants C2, C4, C6, and C8, with the top-spec C8 offering features like power windows, two airbags, a music player with MP3 and aux connectivity, and a reverse-parking sensor. The vehicle has a spacious cabin with good legroom, but the rear seats are less comfortable and best suited for short trips. The exterior design is distinct from the Xylo, especially at the rear, with a side-opening tailgate and wraparound tail lamps. Despite some flaws, the Quanto remains an interesting option for those needing a compact, feature-rich SUV with seven seats.

USER OPINION

Our take on this /// Verdict
The Mahindra Quanto C8 is a unique offering in the Indian market, particularly for those seeking a compact SUV with a seven-seater configuration. While it boasts several strengths, such as its refined 1493cc diesel engine, smooth acceleration, and ample space inside the cabin, it also has some notable drawbacks. The rear seats, although providing additional seating, are not very comfortable and are best suited for short journeys. The ride quality can be bumpy, especially for rear passengers, and the air conditioning could be more powerful. Despite these issues, the Quanto C8 is a good innovation, but it lacks proper execution in some areas. It is a viable option for those who prioritize space and features at a relatively affordable price, but potential buyers should be aware of its limitations.
Price
The Mahindra Quanto C8 was priced in the range of Rs. 6.92 lakh to Rs. 8.48 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) during its time in the market. On-road prices would have varied depending on the state and local taxes, but generally, you could expect to add around Rs. 1-1.5 lakh to the ex-showroom price for registration, insurance, and other costs. This pricing positioned the Quanto as a competitive option in the compact SUV segment, offering a lot of features and space for the money. However, its important to note that the Quanto is no longer in production, so these prices are historical and for reference only.
Latest Updates
Thursday, 21 November 2024 07:48 PM The Mahindra Quanto Diesel C8, the top variant of the Quanto, has been discontinued by Mahindra. This decision comes as the company shifts its focus towards newer models and compliance with changing emission norms. The Quanto C8 was known for its 1493 cc diesel engine, producing 100 bhp and 240 Nm of torque. I think this move is a step towards Mahindras broader strategy to update their lineup with more modern and efficient vehicles.
Thursday, 03 March 2016 07:39 PM Mahindra had planned to introduce a facelift for the Quanto, which was expected to be called the NuvoSport. This updated version was set to include a new front grille, changed design of the airdam, and the introduction of an automatic transmission. However, this plan never materialized, and the Quanto remained in its original form until its discontinuation. I believe the NuvoSport could have been a game-changer for Mahindra in the mini-SUV segment.
Wednesday, 24 June 2015 06:38 PM Mahindra invested significantly in the development of the Quanto, aiming to capture a larger share of the compact SUV market. The companys strategy included focusing on both diesel and, later, petrol engines to cater to a broader customer base. I believe this investment was crucial in Mahindras efforts to expand its product lineup.
Saturday, 29 September 2012 09:40 AM The Mahindra Quanto Diesel C8 featured a range of comfort and safety features, including air conditioning, power steering, power windows, and ABS. It also had exterior features like alloy wheels, fog lamps, and roof rails. These features made it a competitive option in its class. I think the Quantos feature list was quite impressive for its time.
Saturday, 29 September 2012 06:22 AM The Quanto Diesel C8 had a mileage of 17.21 kmpl, as certified by ARAI, and a fuel tank capacity of 55 liters. This made it a relatively fuel-efficient option for those looking for a diesel SUV. The vehicles ground clearance of 180 mm also added to its appeal for Indian road conditions. I believe the fuel efficiency was one of the strong points of this vehicle.
Saturday, 29 September 2012 03:31 PM The Mahindra Quanto was developed based on the Xylo platform and was designed to capitalize on the tax exemption for sub-4 meter vehicles. This strategy allowed Mahindra to position the Quanto as a more affordable option in the SUV segment. I think this was a smart move by Mahindra to tap into the growing demand for compact SUVs.
Saturday, 29 September 2012 04:39 AM The Quanto Diesel C8 was priced between Rs. 8.04 lakh and Rs. 8.56 lakh, making it a competitive option in the mini-SUV segment. The pricing strategy helped Mahindra to attract a significant number of buyers looking for a budget-friendly SUV. I believe the pricing was one of the key factors in its initial success.
Saturday, 29 September 2012 11:50 AM The vehicle came with a 5-speed manual transmission and a rear-wheel drive system. The engine was a 1493 cc mCR100 diesel engine, producing 100 bhp and 240 Nm of torque. This setup provided a good balance of power and efficiency. I think the transmission and drive type were well-suited for the Indian driving conditions.
Saturday, 29 September 2012 12:49 PM The Mahindra Quanto Diesel C8 had a seating capacity of 7, making it a practical choice for families or those needing extra seating space. The vehicles dimensions, including a length of 3985 mm, width of 1850 mm, and height of 1880 mm, also contributed to its spacious interior. I believe the seating capacity was a major selling point for this vehicle.
Saturday, 29 September 2012 12:21 PM The Quanto featured a range of safety features, including ABS, rear parking sensors, and a robust suspension system. The front suspension was an independent double wishbone, while the rear suspension was a five-bar link. These features enhanced the vehicles stability and safety. I think the safety features were quite advanced for its time.
Mileage
Thursday, 21 November 2024 01:00 AM The Mahindra Quanto C8 is reported to offer a mixed bag when it comes to mileage. Official figures suggest an average of 17 kmpl, but real-world experiences vary. Some owners have reported an average of around 16 kmpl, with city mileage as low as 10-12 kmpl and highway mileage up to 25-30 kmpl. This variability makes it crucial to test drive the vehicle under your typical driving conditions to get a better sense of the actual fuel efficiency and running costs.
