About
The Hyundai Xcent Diesel SX is a well-rounded compact sedan designed to meet the diverse needs of Indian car buyers. It features a 1.2-liter three-cylinder diesel engine that produces 75 bhp and offers improved drivability and torque compared to its predecessor. The car is loaded with features such as automatic climate control, rear AC vents, a reversing camera, and rear parking sensors, making it a comfortable and convenient choice. The suspension is softly sprung, providing a comfortable ride on various road conditions, although it can feel a bit wallowy at high speeds. The interior is spacious enough for four adults, though the rear seat is narrower and best suited for three. With its silent engine, good fuel efficiency, and extensive feature list, the Xcent is an excellent option for those seeking a practical and feature-rich compact sedan.

Our take on this /// Verdict
The Hyundai Xcent Diesel SX is a practical and feature-rich compact sedan that caters well to the needs of Indian buyers. My experience with this vehicle has been positive, particularly in terms of its drivability and comfort. The 1.2-liter diesel engine, though not the most powerful, offers significant improvements in torque and throttle response, making city and highway driving more relaxed. The ride quality is plush, especially at low speeds, and the suspension handles bad roads admirably. However, the rear seat space is a bit cramped, and the steering could be more engaging. Despite these minor drawbacks, the Xcents silent and refined engine, coupled with its extensive feature list, including rear AC vents, reversing camera, and automatic climate control, make it a compelling choice. Hyundais strong service network is an added bonus, ensuring hassle-free ownership.
Price
The Hyundai Xcent Diesel SX was priced competitively in its segment. At the time of its launch, the base diesel variant started at around Rs 5.38 lakh (ex-showroom), while the top-end SX(O) variant, which I recommend for its comprehensive feature set, was priced at approximately Rs 8.41 lakh (ex-showroom). On-road prices varied depending on the state and local taxes but generally added another Rs 1-1.5 lakh to the ex-showroom price. Considering the features, performance, and service backup, the Xcent offers good value for money, especially for those prioritizing practicality and comfort.
Latest Updates
Friday, 23 October 2020 03:55 PM
The Hyundai Xcent has been discontinued from the Indian market, with the company confirming that it has reached the end of its production run. The car is no longer listed on the Hyundai India website, and dealers have stopped receiving new units. This decision follows the introduction of the Hyundai Aura, which has taken over the sub-4m sedan segment. I believe this move was inevitable given the rising competition and the need for Hyundai to focus on more popular models.

Hyundai introduced a significant facelift for the Xcent in 2017, which included a new 1.2-litre diesel engine producing 75PS and 190Nm of torque, paired with a 5-speed manual transmission. This update also brought a redesigned rear end, new LED DRLs, and an improved infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. I think these changes made the Xcent more competitive in its segment, even if it wasnt enough to sustain long-term sales.

The 2017 Hyundai Xcent facelift featured a revamped front and rear design, including a larger lower grille, new fog lamps, and LED DRLs. The rear bumper and boot lid were also redesigned to give the car a bolder look. Additionally, the car got a new touchscreen infotainment system and other convenience features like rear AC vents and parking sensors. I believe these aesthetic and feature updates were a step in the right direction, but perhaps came a bit too late to significantly impact sales.

The Hyundai Xcent Diesel SX variant was praised for its improved performance with the new 1.2-litre diesel engine, which offered better torque and a crisper throttle response compared to the older 1.1-litre engine. This variant also came with features like a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, rear camera, and anti-lock brakes. I think this variant offered good value for money, especially for those looking for a balance between performance and features.

The Hyundai Xcent was initially launched in 2014 and quickly gained popularity for its feature-rich offerings, including a touchscreen infotainment system and various safety features like ABS and dual front airbags. However, over time, the competition in the sub-4m sedan segment intensified, leading to a decline in demand for the Xcent. I believe the initial success of the Xcent was a testament to Hyundais ability to pack features into a compact sedan, but the market dynamics eventually caught up.
Mileage
Wednesday, 20 November 2024 04:40 PM
The mileage of the Hyundai Xcent Diesel SX is one of its strong points. With the 1.2-liter diesel engine, you can expect an average fuel efficiency of around 16-17 kmpl in mixed driving conditions. In city traffic, it can dip to around 14 kmpl, while on highways, it can reach up to 19 kmpl. These figures make it an economical choice for those with high monthly mileage, such as 2000 km or more. The fuel efficiency, combined with the diesel engines lower running costs, makes the Xcent a cost-effective option for long-term ownership.
