Honda Brio Automatic

About
The Honda Brio Automatic is a compact and feature-rich hatchback designed specifically for the Asian markets, including India. It is powered by a 1.2-litre i-VTEC engine that produces 88 PS at 6000 RPM and 109 Nm of torque at 4500 RPM, ensuring a smooth and responsive drive. The car features a 5-speed automatic transmission with a torque converter, which is unique in its segment and provides better fuel efficiency and performance. The interior is well-appointed with a new entertainment system offering USB and Bluetooth connectivity, steering-mounted audio controls, and a comfortable cabin despite some limitations in space. The Brios design, though not extensively updated, remains contemporary and appealing. Its compact dimensions make it easy to maneuver in tight city spaces, and the full glass boot lid enhances rear visibility. Overall, the Brio Automatic is a reliable, fuel-efficient, and enjoyable car to drive, making it a solid choice for urban commuters.

USER OPINION

Our take on this /// Verdict
The Honda Brio Automatic is a stellar addition to the small hatchback segment in India, particularly for those who prefer the convenience of an automatic transmission. The 1.2-litre i-VTEC engine, derived from the Honda Jazz, performs brilliantly, offering a smooth and responsive driving experience. The 5-speed automatic transmission, a standout feature in its segment, provides a satisfying balance between performance and fuel economy. Although it may take a moment to register urgent acceleration, the D3 mode is handy for quicker pickups. The cars handling and ride quality are excellent, making it a joy to drive in city traffic and on highways. However, the lack of boot space and some missing features like auto climate control and rear vents are notable drawbacks. Overall, the Brio Automatic is a well-engineered car that is perfect for city driving and offers great value for its price.
Price
The Honda Brio Automatic was priced competitively in the Indian market. At the time of its peak, the ex-showroom price for the Brio Automatic ranged from approximately 6.5 lakh to 7.5 lakh, depending on the variant. On-road prices, including taxes and other costs, would typically be around 7.5 lakh to 8.5 lakh. While these prices are from the past, they give an indication of the cars positioning in the market. The pricing strategy made the Brio Automatic an attractive option for those seeking a reliable, fuel-efficient, and feature-packed automatic hatchback. The value-for-money proposition was strong, especially considering the advanced 5-speed automatic transmission and the robust i-VTEC engine.
Latest Updates
Friday, 12 July 2024 11:58 AM The Honda Brio Automatic, though discontinued in India since 2019 due to BS6 regulations, was once a popular choice for its sleek design and efficient engine. However, for those in other markets like the Philippines, the 2024 Honda Brio Automatic has received a mid-cycle refresh, including a new RS grille, LED headlights, and foglamps for the RS variant. This update gives the Brio a fresh and modern look. I think these aesthetic changes will definitely appeal to new buyers.
Wednesday, 10 July 2024 10:24 AM The updated 2024 Honda Brio Automatic now comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity across all variants except the base S MT. This addition enhances the infotainment system, making it more competitive in the market. The car also features a seven-inch touchscreen and a six-speaker audio system, which is a significant upgrade. I believe this will make the driving experience more enjoyable.
Wednesday, 06 March 2024 12:13 PM Although the Honda Brio was discontinued in India, its legacy lives on in other markets. The 2024 model features minor adjustments to the interior trim and design, including red accents and an updated gauge cluster. These changes give the interior a fresh and modern feel. I believe these updates keep the Brio relevant in a competitive market.
Monday, 08 May 2023 03:23 PM The Honda Brio Automatic, known for its fuel efficiency, continues to be a strong contender in the subcompact hatchback segment. With fuel economy figures of 8.7 km/L in city traffic and 20.3 km/L on the highway, it remains a practical choice for daily driving. I think its fuel efficiency is one of its standout features.
Wednesday, 23 June 2021 11:12 AM Honda Cars Philippines has introduced a special promotion for the Honda Brio, including a 0% interest installment plan and credit card payment options. This move is aimed at making the Brio more accessible to potential buyers. For those in India, while this promotion is not available, it highlights the strategies Honda is using to boost sales in other markets.
Monday, 11 February 2019 11:17 AM In terms of safety, the 2024 Honda Brio Automatic includes features like rear parking sensors, speed-sensing door locks, and dual front airbags. These additions enhance the safety profile of the vehicle, making it a more secure option for buyers. I think safety features are crucial in todays market, and Honda has done well here.
Thursday, 02 August 2018 06:23 PM The second generation of the Honda Brio, unveiled in Indonesia in 2018, shared underpinnings with the new generation Amaze but had distinct styling. This generation marked a significant improvement in design and features, though it did not make it to the Indian market. I believe this generation would have been well-received in India.
Tuesday, 04 October 2016 12:14 AM The Honda Brio Automatics engine remains a 1.2L i-VTEC unit paired with either a five-speed manual or an Earth Dreams CVT. This combination provides a balance between performance and fuel efficiency, making it suitable for both city and highway driving. I think this engine is well-suited for the Brios segment.
Thursday, 08 September 2016 02:05 PM The 2016 facelift of the Honda Brio in India introduced revised styling, aligning it with other Honda models like the Amaze and Mobilio. Although this facelift is older, it shows Hondas commitment to keeping the Brio updated and competitive. I believe such updates are essential for maintaining market interest.
Tuesday, 16 August 2016 03:31 PM Before its discontinuation in India, the Honda Brio had sold over 97,000 units since its launch in 2011. This indicates the vehicles popularity and acceptance in the Indian market. I think its a shame its no longer available here.
Mileage
Wednesday, 20 November 2024 08:03 PM The Honda Brio Automatic offers a reasonable mileage, which is a crucial factor for many Indian buyers. With an ARAI-certified mileage of 16.5 kml, it is slightly lower than its manual counterpart but still competitive in its segment. In real-world conditions, you can expect around 13-15 kml in city traffic and up to 18 kml on highways, depending on driving habits. This makes the Brio Automatic a viable choice for those concerned about running costs, especially in urban environments.
