Honda Brio Diesel E
General information and overview
The Honda Brio is a compact hatchback that was known for its charismatic looks, peppy motor, and chic interiors. With a 1.2-liter i-VTEC petrol engine producing 87 PS of power and 109 Nm of torque, it was a fun-to-drive vehicle, especially in city conditions. The Brio came with both manual and automatic transmission options, though the automatic was limited to the top-spec VX variant. Its compact dimensions made it easy to navigate through congested city roads and park in tight spaces. The interior was fresh and solidly built, with features like central locking, digital odometer, air conditioner, and Bluetooth connectivity. However, the Brios boot space was a significant drawback, and the ride quality could be bumpy. Despite these issues, the Brio remained a popular choice for its handling, fuel efficiency, and reliability.
Expert opinion and recommendation
The Honda Brio Diesel E, although it is no longer in production, was a compelling option for those seeking a compact, fuel-efficient hatchback. However, it had its share of drawbacks. The Brios 1.2-liter i-VTEC engine, while smooth and responsive, was only available in petrol variants, and the lack of a diesel option was a significant oversight. The car excelled in handling and was a joy to drive, especially in city conditions, thanks to its light steering and agile nature. However, the tight boot space and the absence of certain features made it less appealing as a family car. Despite these limitations, the Brios contemporary interiors, good visibility, and comfortable front seats were notable positives.
Recent news and announcements
The Honda Brio Diesel E, which was once a contender in the Indian market, has been officially discontinued by Honda. This decision was made as part of the companys strategy to focus on other models. The Brio will not be replaced by a new generation model.
In its final days, the Honda Brio Diesel E was priced at around Rs. 6 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), making it a competitive option in the sub-4 meter diesel segment. However, its sales had been declining, leading to its eventual discontinuation. I think this was a missed opportunity for Honda to revamp and relaunch the model.
The Honda Brio Diesel E came with a 1.2-liter diesel engine, producing 86.8 bhp of power and 109 Nm of torque, paired with a 5-speed manual transmission. This engine was known for its fuel efficiency, offering a mileage of 22 kmpl. I believe the diesel variant was one of the strongest points of the Brio.
Despite its strong engine and features like central locking, digital odometer, and Bluetooth connectivity, the Honda Brio Diesel E failed to gain significant traction in the Indian market. This was partly due to stiff competition from other brands. I think better marketing could have made a difference.
Honda had offered various benefits and discounts on the Brio Diesel E in an attempt to boost sales. These included free insurance, free accessories, and exchange bonuses. However, these efforts did not yield the desired results. It seems the market had already moved on to other options.
Pricing details and changes
The Honda Brio Diesel E, although discontinued, was priced competitively in the Indian market. When it was available, the prices for the Brio variants ranged between Rs 4.73 lakh and Rs 6.81 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). For the specific Diesel E variant, it was priced around Rs 6 lakh (ex-showroom). On-road prices would have varied depending on the state and local taxes, but you could expect to add around Rs 1 lakh to the ex-showroom price to account for these costs. Given its features and performance, the Brio was a value-for-money proposition, but its discontinuation means its no longer a viable new car purchase option.
Fuel efficiency information
The Honda Brio, in its petrol variants, offered mileage ranging from 16.5 to 18.5 kmpl, depending on the transmission. However, since the Brio Diesel E is not a real variant (the Brio was never offered with a diesel engine), the actual mileage concern would be for the petrol variants. For city driving, you can expect around 15-17 kmpl, while highway driving could yield up to 18-20 kmpl. This makes the Brio a reasonable choice for those concerned about running costs, especially in urban environments.

Why Honda putting 70 Bhp moter in new brio. It must be launched with amaze engine as for better power and reasonable mileage...
Honda Brio Diesel car must come to India. Honda have already proved its quality over a long time with its luxury cars. Diesel car is always preferred over petrol due to its fuel economy rate especially in the metro cities and by the people those who travel a lot. I m hoping to see the diesel variant. I expect it would be great deal if they lunch diesel car in brio variant with all the features of available V MT features. It will definitely compete with maruti swift. We young generation need the best at affordable price. my car should drive smoothly upto 1,00,000 Km, that is possible with HONDA. best wishes n good luck for the lunch.
