Latest Updates
Wednesday, 01 April 2020 09:45 AM The Yamaha Alpha was discontinued in April 2020 due to its non-compliance with the new BS6 emission norms. This decision was part of the industrys transition to stricter emission standards. The scooter had been a popular choice for Indian families, known for its linear power delivery and best-in-class fuel efficiency. I think this was a significant loss for Yamahas scooter lineup in India.
Friday, 15 March 2019 01:06 AM Before its discontinuation, the Yamaha Alpha received an update in 2019, which included a maintenance-free battery and the introduction of Yamahas Unified Braking System (UBS). This update also saw a slight price increase, with the drum brake variant costing Rs 400 more and the disc brake variant costing Rs 600 more. The UBS was a notable feature that enhanced safety.
Wednesday, 20 February 2019 07:43 AM In 2019, Yamaha also introduced a new disc brake variant of the Alpha, which came with additional features like chrome inserts on the rearview mirrors and the front apron, giving it a more premium look. This variant was priced around Rs 2,200 more than the dual-tone standard trim. The disc brake added an extra layer of safety to the scooter.
Thursday, 10 January 2019 07:48 PM The Yamaha Alpha was known for its spacious under-seat storage, long and comfortable seat, and a large floorboard, making it an ideal family scooter. It featured Yamahas Blue Core technology, which provided decent performance and impressive fuel efficiency of 66 kmpl. These features made it a strong competitor in the Indian scooter market.
Saturday, 15 December 2018 01:42 AM The Alpha ran on an air-cooled, 4-stroke, SOHC, 2-valve, single-cylinder engine that displaced 113cc. It was mated with a V-belt automatic transmission system and delivered a maximum power of 7 bhp at 7,500 rpm and a peak torque of 8.1 Nm at 5,000 rpm. This engine setup was praised for its reliability and efficiency.
Tuesday, 20 November 2018 01:32 PM The scooter had a steel pipe underbone type frame and was equipped with 90/100-10 (53J) tires at both ends. The suspension system included telescopic suspension at the front and unit swing suspension at the rear, which provided a smooth ride. I believe this suspension setup was one of the key factors in its popularity.
Thursday, 25 October 2018 01:01 AM The Yamaha Alpha was available in two color options: Radiant Cyan and Marvel Black. The scooter also featured an analogue speedometer, odometer, and fuel gauge, which were standard for its time. These features contributed to its user-friendly design.
Saturday, 15 September 2018 06:02 AM The Alpha had a fuel tank volume of 5.2 liters and delivered an impressive mileage of 62 kmpl, making it a fuel-efficient option for daily commuting. This was a significant selling point, especially in a market where fuel efficiency is highly valued.
Friday, 10 August 2018 05:44 AM Yamaha positioned the Alpha as a direct competitor to other popular Indian scooters like the Honda Activa and TVS Jupiter. The scooters mass centralization helped in maintaining optimum stability and made handling easier, which was a key selling point for family riders. I think this strategy helped Yamaha gain a significant market share.
Friday, 20 July 2018 05:47 PM The Yamaha Alpha was praised for its linear power delivery, which helped maintain performance in varying conditions. This made it a reliable choice for both urban and rural riders. The scooters design and features were tailored to meet the needs of Indian families.

Quick Review by Maxabout Team

Indian roads and scooters have a well established relationship. Yamaha Alpha is specifically designed for targeting the Indian audience. The decent looks and a promising mileage is what we can officially describe for the Yamaha’s third scooter- The Alpha. It is powered by a air-cooled, 113cc, four stroke, single cylinder engine with BLUE CORE technology that is capable of producing a maximum power of 7 BHP at 7500 rpm and an utmost torque of 8.1 Nm at 5000 rpm.

The engine is mated to a an automatic gearbox nad has a kerb weight of 104 kgs which is perfect for a unisex commuter. The Yamaha Alpha Scooter competes in the market with the likes of Honda Activa, Hero Maestro Edge and Mahindra Gusto in its segment. It is available in India at a starting range of INR 50,339 - 54,930 (ex showroom Delhi) and comes in 5 stunning shades: Blooming Red, Cocktail White (Drum Version) and 3 shades for disc brake model: Blazing Blue, Radiant Cyan, Marvel Black.

The entry level scooter is famous for its power packed features and a worthy performance. The company claimed mileage of Yamaha Alpha is 45- 50 kmpl which is perfect for transferring to and fro on Indian roads. The telescopic suspension at the front and unit swing suspension at tehrear have made the scooter rather comfortable to drive and manage. The ground clearance of 128 mm though being not enough is pretty standard.

The fuel economy of 62 kmpl has made it to the list of one of the most desirable scooters in India. The Yamaha Alpha gets an analogue speedometer and a fuel gauge. It completely justifies the the concept of “Easy to go and high utility city mover”. The 21 litres of storage space is good enough to store your utilities and the long seat is perfect for an additional comfort. The modern design and the stand out performance makes Yamaha Alpha a much better investment for Indian roads.

Disappointed in the bike's performance

I had high expectations of the Yamaha Alpha when I bought it three months ago. Unfortunately, I have been disappointed in the bike's performance. The mileage is very poor, only giving approximately 20-25 km per litre. The engine is very loud when travelling at speeds below 40 km/h and the fuel indicator is unreliable, often showing empty even when there is still fuel in the tank. The disc brake is also not very effective. In hindsight, I should have gone for the Honda Activa instead.

Reliable family scooter with excellent mileage

Yamaha Alpha has proven itself to be a reliable family scooter with its excellent mileage of 62km/l and a good design. Its headlight, large and comfortable seat, and 21 liter storage capacity make it a great choice for those who don't want to worry about carrying extra baggage. Its engine is powered by 113cc air cooled with continuously variable transmission for smooth acceleration; it may not be the fastest scooter but it does provide a comfortable ride. Its light weight 104 kg and smooth handling make it perfect for riding in the streets and in the traffic. It also has telescopic forks and firm suspension for a safe and secure ride. All in all, Yamaha Alpha is a great choice for those who are looking for an efficient and reliable family scooter.

Vibration and fuel efficiency are major drawbacks

Shinde Vikas Ganesh | 2 years ago

The Yamaha Alpha provides a stylish design, but the quality of the plastic used in the body parts is quite cheap. The engine performance is rather poor, and it is not very fuel efficient either. The ride quality and handling are decent, but there is a lot of vibration in the engine, making it difficult to ride in peace. The brakes are fairly good as well.

The main areas of improvement for the Yamaha Alpha would be the quality of the body parts, its fuel efficiency, and the engine vibration and RPM.

In conclusion, the Yamaha Alpha looks great, but its vibration and fuel efficiency are major drawbacks.

The scooter is a great choice for those looking for a reliable ride in India. It offers great mileage - up to 40 KMPL, making it one of the most fuel-efficient in its class. The superb built quality means that you can count on it to last you for many years. Plus, the engine is really smooth and gives you a great ride experience. All in all, it's one of the toughest scooters in India that you can buy.

Yamaha Alpha is a good quality product, perfect for families

Love Goyal | 2 years ago

The Yamaha Alpha is a decent scooter with an attractive dual tone paint scheme and smooth engine. It has good fuel economy and ample boot space, however the engine lacks power and it can be a bit slow from 0-30kmph. The handle doesn't have a brake lock, and the seat is big but not very comfortable. It handles nicely on city roads and highways below 80kmph.

Overall, the Yamaha Alpha is a good quality product, perfect for families. It could be improved with a 125cc engine to give it more power.
