TVS Star City Alloy Wheels Review
Quick Review by Maxabout Team
Star City is currently the largest selling bike of TVS in our Indian bike market. The bike has been doing really well for the past few years. Now, looking at the new stylish competitors, TVS has re-launched their reliable product. Let’s figure out the new changes.
Design and Style
Its grown-up appearance has always been a big advantage for this bike. TVS Star City looks well composed in comparison to its rivals. The bike now receives new cosmetic changes while its basic design remains intact. Star city now follows the all black theme with fascinating dual tone graphics. Its front forks, fender, engine, brake pedal, muffler with heat protector and rear grab rail are now painted in black color which complements its all color schemes. The front fender now features cool graphics on it which makes this bike look aerodynamic. The revised tinted visor and headlight adds charm to this bike with its new clear lens indicators. The cowl receives new graphics and the face of the bike now looks different than before. Its fuel tank and side panels are the same but visually look fresh thanks to the addition of new graphics. There are no major changes at the back as you can still notice its familiar tail light. The rear fender is short and wide carries a set of side indicators and displays the number plate and reflector light on it.
Instrument Console
TVS has worked on the instrument console of Star City as now it comes with a standard backlit feature. The twin circular dials of this bike carries analogue Speedometer and Fuel gauge respectively. The dial with speedometer also houses an analogue odometer while you can also notice other indicators in this instrument console. The bike also gets a mobile charging point which is a unique feature in itself.
Engine and Gearbox
TVS has powered Star City with a 4-stroke 110cc engine. This engine is mated with a four-speed manual gearbox with all gears down shift pattern. This air-cooled engine generates a peak power and torque output of 8.2 bhp and 8.1 Nm which arrives at 7500 and 5000 rpm respectively.
Acceleration and Performance
This engine is certainly better than any 100cc bike available in India. It’s more powerful and responsive than any of its competitors. The early torque and power production of this engine plays a vital role in the performance of this engine. Its ample amount of torque reduces the gear shifts and you get a stress free ride in city traffic. The gear ratios are also short which makes it feel peppier than others. The throttle response makes it an enthusiast. The bike does 0-60km/hr in less than seven seconds. The light weight of this bike helps it to get a respectable power to weight ratio and that’s quite evident on highways. It can go pass the speed of 95km/hr but from here on, this engine turns really noisy. There are very less vibrations in this engine and it feels better than Bajaj Discover 100 in terms of engine refinement. In fact its gear transitions are also very smooth and better than many other bikes but we don’t think TVS can beat the Honda bikes. Their refinement level is far better than Star City but that’s only evident at high speeds.
Mileage
Expect Star City to return a fuel efficiency of around 60km/ltr in city conditions. The bike saves more fuel on highways and may return you a mileage of around 65-68km/ltr. The company claimed mileage of Star City is 83kmpl under standard test conditions.
Comfort while Driving
TVS Star City is a commuter bike with front set foot-pegs and wide handle bar. The handle bar is placed a bit low which gives comfort to your shoulders on long journeys. The wide and long seat of Star City can easily be occupied by two adults. This seat is well stuffed and positioned. The knees lie around its full size fuel tank while you get a good palm grip on its handlebar. The bike features an electric start for you comfort which avoids kicking frequently.
Storage Space and Safety Features
TVS Star City has under seat storage space. The bike comes with safety features like rear saree guard, front leg guard, pass button and powerful headlight.
Suspension and Brakes
The front suspension system of Star City still features telescopic oil damped forks but TVS has worked on the settings of its rear suspension. The bike gets first in its class rear shock absorber with ride switch. It has 2-way adjustable hydraulic rear shock absorbers which can be adjusted by the rider by a switch. The braking system of this bike still lacks an optional front disc brake. It features drum brakes on its both wheels. It has a front drum brake of 130mm while its rear drum brake is of 110mm.
Ride and Handling
TVS Star City is a very comfortable bike which offers commuters friendly ride and handling. It can be steered easily in city traffic and handles as per your need. Even on highways, the bike follows the command. It’s a light weight bike which can easily be controlled by the set of drum brakes. The suspension system of this bike is better than most of its rivals and manages to give you comfortable rides on our Indian roads. Moreover, its high ground clearance of 165mm makes sure that no high obstruction bothers you. The ride quality of this bike would have been much better if it had a longer wheelbase. The bike still lacks stability at high speeds due to its wheelbase of 1240mm. Things get even worse around sharp corners as its skinny tyres are unable to hold the road properly.
Shades
TVS Star City is available in six attractive shades: 'Electric Green', 'Bold Blue', Red Blaze, 'Gold Spark', 'Silver Strike' and 'Crimson Flash'.
Verdict
Its variant with alloy wheels and self-start is priced at INR 43.4K (ex-showroom, Delhi (approx., may vary)). Undoubtedly, this bike is a complete value for money bike. TVS has priced this bike way below its competitors like Hero Passion X-Pro and Honda Dream Yuga. The new variant has all essential features and looks better than before. Moreover, its fuel efficient engine is very responsive and commuter friendly. The new variant has improved significantly and we hope this bike to continue its golden run in our Indian bike market.
