General information and overview

The Honda Eterno is a 147.7cc, air-cooled, 4-stroke scooter designed with simplicity and ruggedness in mind. It features a 4-speed manual transmission operated via a kick-start, producing 8.2 bhp at 6000 rpm and 10.63 Nm torque at 4000 rpm. Weighing just 125 kg, it is nimble and easy to handle in dense traffic conditions. Its 4.5-liter fuel tank and reputed mileage of 60 kmpl make it very fuel-efficient. The scooter is equipped with drum brakes front and rear, and has bottom link front suspension with hydraulic dampers enhancing ride comfort on rough city roads. It lacks modern conveniences such as electric start, ABS, or digital displays but gains points for mechanical simplicity and durability, often prized in tough Indian commuting environments. Though discontinued, it remains a practical choice for riders valuing fuel economy, low maintenance, and basic performance without unnecessary features.

The Honda Eterno is a geared scooter powered by a 147.7 cc air-cooled, single-cylinder, 4-stroke engine paired with a 4-speed manual transmission. Weighing 125 kg, it offers easy maneuverability and decent power output of 8.2 bhp and 10.63 Nm torque, suitable for city traffic and moderate speeds. Its modest 4.5-liter fuel tank supports an excellent mileage of 60 kmpl, making it highly fuel-efficient. Suspension features include bottom link spring-loaded hydraulic dampers at the front and unit swing spring-loaded hydraulic dampers at the rear, although the setup is reported to be a bit stiff over rough roads. Braking is handled by drum brakes both front and rear, which provide adequate stopping power but lack the safety of disc brakes or ABS. The Eterno skips modern tech like electric start, mobile connectivity, and digital instrumentation with only kick start available. Its compact dimensions and light weight make it a practical choice for Indian commuters seeking an affordable and efficient vehicle for daily urban travel.

Our Verdict

Expert opinion and recommendation

The Honda Eterno presents itself as a simple, no-frills 150cc scooter option that shines in its durability and fuel efficiency. Its 147.7cc air-cooled 4-stroke engine delivers a modest 8.2 bhp and 10.63 Nm torque with a 4-speed manual gearbox, making it ideal for urban commuting and light highway runs. The scooter is lightweight at 125 kg which adds to its agility in city traffic. While lacking advanced features like ABS, self-start, or digital instrumentation, its ride quality benefits from hydraulic suspension and drum brakes on both ends. The kick-start-only mechanism might feel outdated but contributes to reliability and low maintenance. The modest 4.5-litre fuel tank and impressive ARAI mileage claim of 60 kmpl makes it remarkably economical. Though Honda has discontinued the model, its usability, robustness, and cost-effectiveness make it a strong contender for those wanting a dependable and efficient ride without modern gadgetry or premium pricing. In short, it is a minimalist and practical scooter focused on straightforward performance rather than bells and whistles.

The Honda Eterno stands out as a practical and reliable geared scooter in the Indian market, especially for those looking for a lightweight, fuel-efficient commuter. It offers a 147.7 cc air-cooled, 4-stroke single-cylinder engine delivering 8.2 bhp and 10.63 Nm of torque, which ensures decent performance for city rides and short highway bursts. With a kerb weight of just 125 kg and a compact design, it is easy to handle in traffic and tight spaces. However, the absence of modern features like ABS, electric start, and mobile connectivity may feel outdated to current standards. The 4-speed manual transmission adds a sporty element to riding but might not suit everyone looking for automatic convenience. The suspension setup is basic, with spring-loaded hydraulic dampers front and rear, which might be stiff over rough roads. Overall, the Eterno is a no-nonsense, budget-friendly choice for buyers seeking superb mileage and low running costs but who can compromise on feature set and comfort.

Price

Pricing details and changes

The Honda Eterno is priced around Rs 45,500 ex-showroom in India, depending on region. On-road prices, including taxes, insurance, and registration, would typically push the figure closer to Rs 51,000 to Rs 53,000 in metropolitan cities. This price bracket positions the Eterno as one of the most affordable 150cc scooters in the Indian market, competing mainly on value and simplicity rather than features. For buyers prioritizing cost-conscious commuting, the Eterno offers an economical initial investment and low maintenance costs due to its basic mechanical structure. However, with no major updates and discontinuation status, obtaining new models might be limited, and resale values could be affected by the lack of dealer support or parts. It appeals best to budget-conscious buyers seeking core functionality over modern styling or tech extras at an attractive price point.

In India, the Honda Eterno is priced around ₹45,500 ex-showroom depending on the city, with the on-road price approximately ranging between ₹50,000 and ₹55,000 factoring in taxes, insurance, road tax, and registration charges. This competitive pricing positions the Eterno as one of the most affordable scooters with a 150cc engine, attracting budget-conscious buyers who prioritize mileage and reliability. Given the lack of advanced features and technology compared to more expensive scooters, the price is justifiable, offering value primarily in fuel efficiency and basic functional riding. For urban commuters needing an economical daily ride without many frills, this price point is compelling, but those looking for modern comforts or automatic transmission might find better options at a slightly higher price.

The Honda Eterno’s claimed mileage of around 60 kmpl places it among the most fuel-efficient scooters in its category. This makes it an excellent choice for city commuters concerned about running costs and fuel economy. The modest 4.5-litre fuel tank combined with high mileage ensures fewer fuel stops and economical daily commuting, which is crucial for budget-conscious urban riders.

The Honda Eterno claims an impressive ARAI-certified mileage of 60 kmpl, making it exceptionally economical for Indian riding conditions. This high mileage means lower fuel expenses and reduced running costs, a major factor for buyers concerned about budget and fuel efficiency. The 4.5-liter fuel tank balances well with its mileage, allowing for substantial distance coverage per fill-up, ideal for daily commuting needs in cities or semi-urban areas.

Vehicle Overview
Honda Eterno is one of its kind scooter that was offered in competition to the famous Bajaj Chetak in the Indian market. The geared scooter was powered by 147.7 cc, single cylinder engine that was good for 8 BHP at 6000 rpm and 10.60 Nm at 4000 rpm. It comes mated to a 4-speed gearbox that is placed on the left hand side of the handlebar. It weighs quite high at 139 kg and came with just 4.5 liters of fuel tank. Honda claimed a top speed of 85 kmph for the Eterno while it was mostly good for city riding with moderate speeds between 50-60 kmph. It claimed high torque at low rpm that proves good for pulling more weight than a motorcycle.
