Vespa is an Italian scooter brand manufactured by Piaggio since 1946. From its beginning, it has got a stature of uniqueness, style and class. It is also known for its strong steel body, flat floorboard and prominent front fairing. In 2011 EICMA motorcycle show, Piaggio first showcased Vespa 946, a retro-futurist Quarantasei concept of Vespa which is based on Vespa prototype of MP6, 1945. The final production version was presented at EICMA 2012. It made its way in the European market in July 2013 and will be available in India by early or mid-2014.
The exterior of Vespa 946 gives a great style statement with futuristic looking design and handmade features. It has a handlebar mounted round and stylish LED Headlight, small chromed grille on front with slim turn LED indicators on either side, futuristic design of handlebar which also has switchgear and rear view mirrors, stylish front mudguard, floating single-piece tapered seat which is hand stitched, hand finished leather palm grips, final coat of polish by hand, retro styled round tail light flush-fitted into the body, a number of air vents at rear to aid the air-cooled engine, rear side turn indicators below the air vents, old-school grey pressed rims with 12-inch wheels, passenger footrest and side panels with advanced graphics and sharp lines.
Its dimensions are not disclosed yet. The instrument panel has a light blue back-lit digital LCD display with Digital Fuel gauge, 2 Trip meters and Speedometer, Low fuel indicator and a low battery indicator. It also has a pass light and self-start button. It is also a very comfortable scooter with hand stitched wide seat, leather palm grips, nicely placed handlebar, premium quality buttons on handlebar and flat floorboard with enough space for legroom. Both these engines have a fuel injection system and provide good performance and low NVH. Vespa 946 has disk brakes at both front and rear wheels. The scooter has a great ride quality and handling.
Piaggio also provides a series of accessories with the scooter to add to its stylish and futuristic look which includes genuine leather seat in Black, Brown or Red, chromed rear rack, a fly screen for front, Aluminium hand grips of Red Seat material, Natural Real leather, Black Real leather or Grey Seat material, Helmet Bag in Red Seat material, Real Black leather, Real Brown leather or Grey Seat material, Aluminium Billets for special parts, Leg Cover for rain and Handlebar Muffs. Piaggio Vespa will be available most probably in two variants, 125cc variant and 150cc variant. It has two shades which includes Black and White.
At now, it has been speculated to be priced around INR 2.00 lakhs but it is still not certain as the company gave hints of reducing the price but it is too early to get our hopes high. Overall, this is the advent of a futuristic era of scooters and Piaggio is the most appropriate one to lead the way with its great reputation. Also, Vespa 946 looks like a bundle of stylish features and also seems to have a good performance in it with advanced safety features and futuristic design. The only and the biggest thing that makes it exclusive for a certain class is its high price in which you can get a three times powerful and four times fast motorcycle. But, the same reason makes it a proper choice for people who don’t give much priority to money.
