Vespa LX 125
Vespa Variant
General information and overview
The Vespa LX 125 is a scooter that combines classic Italian design with modern engineering. It features a 125cc, single-cylinder, 3-valve, 4-stroke engine that provides a smooth and powerful ride, making it suitable for both city commuting and occasional long rides. The scooter boasts a monocoque steel high rigidity structure, ensuring stability and durability. Its suspension, comprising a single-sided hydraulic shock absorber at the front and a hydraulic monoshock at the rear, offers excellent ride quality even on poor roads. The Vespa LX 125 also includes a spacious underseat storage compartment and a front storage bay, adding to its practicality. With its retro-themed design, including a rounded headlight and curvy body panels, the Vespa LX 125 is a stylish and attention-grabbing vehicle that is well-suited for those who value both form and function.
Expert opinion and recommendation
The Vespa LX 125 is a scooter that embodies a perfect blend of retro styling and modern performance. While it excels in its city-friendly maneuverability and strong engine performance, producing 10.06 PS of power at 7500 RPM and 10.6 Nm of torque at 6000 RPM, it does come with some drawbacks. The scooters high-speed stability is compromised due to its narrower tires, and the brakes, particularly the front drum brake, could be more effective. Despite these issues, the Vespa LX 125s stylish design, comfortable ride quality, and robust engine make it a compelling choice for those looking for a lifestyle product that turns heads. However, the premium pricing and mixed reviews on after-sales service are factors to consider before making a purchase.
Recent news and announcements
The Vespa LX 125 has been discontinued in India as of June 2022. This decision was likely due to the scooters high price tag and relatively low sales numbers. I believe this move might be a strategic step to focus on more competitive models in the Indian market.
Vespa and Aprilia announced festive discounts for their scooters, including the Vespa LX 125, with benefits worth up to Rs 10,000. This was part of their efforts to boost sales during the festive season. I think such offers can be a great incentive for potential buyers looking for a premium scooter.
Vespa India introduced a More With Morya offer for their scooter portfolio, including the LX 125, which included a scratch card with assured cashback up to Rs 20,000. This offer was available at select dealerships in Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan. I believe such promotional offers can help attract more customers, especially in regions where the brand has a strong presence.
The Vespa LX 125 was known for its unique design and high build quality, featuring a chrome-accented body and wider tubeless tyres. Despite its premium feel, the scooters high price point made it less competitive in the Indian market. I think the design and build quality were definitely standout features, but the pricing was a significant barrier for many buyers.
Piaggio India launched the BS-VI compliant version of the Vespa LX 125 in December 2019. The new model adhered to the stricter emission norms and featured a refined 125cc air-cooled engine. I believe the transition to BS-VI was a necessary step to comply with environmental regulations, and its good to see Vespa adapting to these changes.
Pricing details and changes
The Vespa LX 125 is priced at a premium in the Indian market. At the time of its launch, the ex-showroom price in India was around Rs 66,000 to Rs 66,661, depending on the location. On-road prices would typically include additional costs such as registration, insurance, and other local taxes, pushing the total cost to around Rs 75,000 to Rs 80,000. This pricing places the Vespa LX 125 significantly higher than many of its competitors, making it a lifestyle investment rather than a purely practical purchase. The high price is justified by its unique design, quality build, and the prestige of owning a Vespa, but it may deter budget-conscious buyers.
Fuel efficiency information
The mileage of the Vespa LX 125 is a mixed bag. While it is capable of delivering around 45 kml when driven sedately, real-world mileage often falls short, with many users reporting figures closer to 35-40 kml. This variability is largely dependent on driving habits and maintenance. For those concerned about running costs, its important to note that the scooters fuel efficiency is decent but not exceptional, especially considering its premium pricing.
