Yamaha Motor Company's sales report for January 2024 unveils a total of 75,062 units sold worldwide, encompassing both domestic and export markets. This figure represents a staggering year-on-year growth of 57,903 units compared to January 2023 translating to a remarkable volume increase of 17,159 units. Notably, this surge in sales was predominantly fueled by robust performance in the domestic market, while export figures witnessed a noticeable decline.

Domestic Sales Performance

In January 2024, Yamaha witnessed a remarkable uptick in domestic sales, with a total of 62,384 units sold. This signifies an impressive year-on-year growth of 57.19% over the 39,688 units sold in January 2023. Furthermore, there was a notable month-on-month growth of 55.80% compared to the 40,042 units sold in December 2023. Leading the charge in domestic sales was the Yamaha MT15, which recorded the highest sales volume of 15,124 units in January 2024, reflecting a substantial year-on-year growth of 73.08%. Moreover, the MT15 also exhibited exceptional month-on-month sales growth, boasting a staggering 136.16% increase over December 2023. The MT15 currently commands an impressive market share of 24.24%.

Yamaha introduced new color schemes for several models, including the FZ street bikes, FZ-X neo-retro, and R15 faired motorcycle. Among these, the FZ emerged as the second-best-selling model in January 2024, witnessing a commendable year-on-year growth of 14.48% with 14,678 units sold. Additionally, month-on-month sales saw a notable improvement of 36.12% compared to December 2023.

Another standout performer in the domestic market was the RayZR scooter, which surpassed the 10,000-unit mark with 12,047 units sold in January 2024. This represented an impressive year-on-year growth of 134.33% and a month-on-month improvement of 39.38% from December 2023.

The R15 also demonstrated robust performance, achieving year-on-year and month-on-month growth of 22.09% and 31.99%, respectively, with 9,676 units sold in January 2024.

Furthermore, the Fascino, Aerox, and R3 also contributed significantly to domestic sales with 8,176 units, 2,653 units, and 30 units sold, respectively. Particularly noteworthy was the Aerox, which experienced a remarkable month-on-month growth of 103.76% over December 2023.

Yamaha Exports Performance

In contrast to domestic sales, Yamaha experienced a downturn in exports in January 2024, with total shipments amounting to 12,678 units. This marked a significant year-on-year decline of 30.40% from January 2023 and a month-on-month decrease of 45.66% compared to December 2023.

Despite the challenges in exports, the Yamaha FZ accounted for the majority share, albeit experiencing year-on-year and month-on-month declines of 18.02% and 34.57%, respectively, with 7,178 units shipped in January 2024.

However, amidst the overall decline in exports, there were positive developments for certain models. For instance, the Fascino witnessed a commendable year-on-year growth of 118.18% with 120 units exported in January 2024, and a staggering month-on-month growth of 1900% compared to December 2023.

Furthermore, recent launches such as the Yamaha MT-03 and R3 have garnered attention setting the stage for Yamaha's entry into the premium middle-weight motorcycle segment with the upcoming launches of the Yamaha R7, MT-07, and MT-09 in 2024. Additionally, Yamaha showcased the Nmax 155 and Grand Filano 125 in India signaling its intent to expand its presence in the Indian market.

Yamaha's recall of 3 lakh Fascino 125 and RayZR 125 vehicles owing to brake lever replacements presented difficulties but the incident also highlighted the company's dedication to guaranteeing consumer safety and quality control.
