Kawasaki Ninja 500 Teased Before India Launch

Recently teased on Kawasaki India’s social media, the Ninja 500, first spotted at EICMA 2023, is gearing up to launch in India.

Expected Variants and Features

It's anticipated that only the SE variant will make its way to India and this model boasts a 5-inch TFT display and keyless ignition. Notably, it features a lower seat height of 785mm and a kerb weight of 171kg.

Engine and Specifications

Under the hood, the Kawasaki Ninja 500 packs a liquid-cooled, 451cc, parallel twin engine. It delivers 45.4hp at 9,000rpm and 42.6Nm at 6,000rpm. Derived from the Ninja 400, this engine sports a longer stroke and is paired with a six-speed gearbox equipped with a slip and assist clutch.

Design and Comparison

Similar to its predecessor, the Ninja 500 sports a trellis frame, complemented by a telescopic fork and a preload adjustable mono-shock. Compared to rival models like the Aprilia RS 457 and the KTM RC 390 it is more accessible for shorter riders because of its lower seat height. Despite its 14-litre tank, the Ninja 500 weighs a lighter 171kg, outperforming rivals like the RS 457 and the RC 390.

The teased model, presumably the Ninja 500 SE, features the distinctive KRT colors. This version which has a 5-inch TFT dash is notable in its class since it has keyless ignition, Bluetooth connectivity, and turn-by-turn navigation. Its design cues, such as the twin LED headlamp and integrated LED tail-lamp, resemble the 2024 ZX-6R.

Price and Competition

The pricing strategy in India is yet to be unveiled. However, in the UK, the Eliminator 500 and the Ninja 500 are similarly priced. The Ninja 500 is positioned to leave its imprint in the entry-level sportbike market, going up against the likes of the Aprilia RS 457, Yamaha R3, KTM RC 390, and BMW G 310 RR.
