I don't think so. Unique, capable vehicles always have a market. The Thar isn’t practical, but it’s doing well. The Jimny will fit into a niche.

It might not last long. The Jimny, though, is not very practical and Indian buyers are very value conscious, and most people will not justify the cost.

It will all depend on how Maruti positions the Jimny. If they sell it as a lifestyle vehicle, not a practical SUV, they could keep a steady, if small, customer base.

In fact, the limited practicality might actually be good for its image. That'll make it cool, niche and potentially high value in resale, while keeping it desirable.

This is going to be a slow burner. Hype might make initial sales high, but long term it will settle into a steady, modest sales figure. It's not going to be a volume seller, but it doesn't need to be.

I don't think so. Young buyers, for the most part, want sleek, modern designs with lots of tech. It looks like a vehicle their grandparents would have driven.

Is the Jimny practical enough for city use?

Absolutely not. The boot space is a joke, it's too stiff for comfortable daily commutes and it's too small for a family. It's not a daily driver, it's a weekend toy.

People don't give the Jimny enough credit for being practical. When you need space, the rear seats fold flat. It's all about smart packing.
Is the Jimny practical enough for city use?
31 December 2024 09:03
For city use I think it's overkill. It’s off road capability that you’ll very seldom use, and you’re paying for it. If you want to be purely an urban driver, a regular hatchback or compact SUV makes more sense.
