Does the NEXA XL5's tall boy design hold any meaning in the market of today?
31 December 2024 09:25
The real question is whether the tall boy design fits into the premium NEXA brand image. Does it feel upscale enough, though, if it’s practical? Maruti might find it hard to convince buyers that’s where.
Is the NEXA XL5 appealing enough along with features to compete with compact SUVs?

No way. SUVs are all the rage now. People want that high seating position and that rugged look. An SUV might have some nice features, but nothing beats the XL5 for appeal.

And I think it can compete, but in a different way. As a more city friendly package the XL5 offers SUV like space and practicality. Not everyone needs, or wants to have, a large SUV for urban driving.

It's all about marketing. However, if Maruti plays its cards right with the XL5, and builds it around its premium features and practicality, then it can certainly lure away buyers from entry level compact SUVs.

The XL5 and compact SUVs are for different sets of buyers. Let’s be real. For people looking for efficiency and ease of use in the city, the XL5 is the car; for those wanting a more adventurous image, SUV is the car.
Is the NEXA XL5 appealing enough along with features to compete with compact SUVs?

In fact, I think the XL5 has a better value proposition. You’re getting premium features at a lower price point than most compact SUVs. It’s a tempting option for those who are looking for something nice, but who aren’t looking beyond budget.

On the 'cool factor' side the XL5 might have a hard time competing with SUVs. For practical, no-nonsense buyers who can see past the hype however, it may be well worth it. It's about style over substance.

NEXA brand is not to be underestimated. There are some who will buy the XL5 just for the NEXA premium buying and ownership experience over a base model compact SUV.
If the S-Cross is so safe, then why did Maruti discontinue it?
31 December 2024 09:20
It wasn’t selling well, simple. If people aren't buying the car, good safety doesn't matter.
If the S-Cross is so safe, then why did Maruti discontinue it?

I think it's more complex. It didn’t really fit anywhere – it was too big to be a premium hatch and too small to be a proper SUV. Compact SUVs became the preferred choice of market.
If the S-Cross is so safe, then why did Maruti discontinue it?

So Maruti probably figured they could sell cars with lower safety but higher margins and make more money. Sad but true.
If the S-Cross is so safe, then why did Maruti discontinue it?

The S-Cross may have been eating into sales of other NEXA models like the Ciaz. Perhaps Maruti was looking to simplify their premium line up.
If the S-Cross is so safe, then why did Maruti discontinue it?

Sales were hurt by the lack of a petrol option for most of its lifecycle. When they launched the 1.5L petrol it was already too late.
If the S-Cross is so safe, then why did Maruti discontinue it?

I feel it’s because of the partnership between Maruti and Toyota. In that segment, they may be planning to replace it with a rebadged Toyota model.
If the S-Cross is so safe, then why did Maruti discontinue it?
31 December 2024 09:20
Safety wise, the S-Cross was ahead of its time. Back then, the market wasn’t ready to pay a premium for safety features.
Was the S-Cross hybrid system really useful, or simply a gimmick?

Total gimmick. I hardly saw any difference in fuel economy versus the non hybrid version.
Was the S-Cross hybrid system really useful, or simply a gimmick?
31 December 2024 09:20
It’s not huge, but it does help in stop and go traffic. It’s smoother than most non-hybrid cars.
Was the S-Cross hybrid system really useful, or simply a gimmick?
31 December 2024 09:20
The real benefit is not in fuel savings but in emissions reduction. Even if it's a small step towards electrification.
Was the S-Cross hybrid system really useful, or simply a gimmick?
31 December 2024 09:20
I found that it was useful for the torque assist during initial acceleration. It makes the car feel peppier when driving in the city.
Was the S-Cross hybrid system really useful, or simply a gimmick?

It’s not a game changer, but it’s another small step. A 5-10% improvement in efficiency over time adds up.
