What’s the long term cost and environmental impact of the Grand Vitara’s hybrid system versus full EVs?
31 December 2024 08:04
Don't forget about the impact on the environment of manufacturing. Compared to full EVs, the Grand Vitara’s smaller battery means less mining for rare earth metals.
Is the Grand Vitara's mild off road capability worthy of an SUV or just a glorified hatchback?
31 December 2024 08:04
It's definitely more capable than a hatch back. Combined with the AWD system and decent ground clearance, it’s light enough to do some light off roading. The Indian road conditions are perfect for it.
Is the Grand Vitara's mild off road capability worthy of an SUV or just a glorified hatchback?
31 December 2024 08:04
Admit it, it’s a crossover at best. Only a few owners will ever take it off road. It’s just SUV styling to cash in on the trend.
Is the Grand Vitara's mild off road capability worthy of an SUV or just a glorified hatchback?

The Grand Vitara finds a good balance. This is not a hardcore off roader but it can do rough roads and even mild trails better than an ordinary car. That's all most people need.
Is the Grand Vitara's mild off road capability worthy of an SUV or just a glorified hatchback?

I’d argue it’s earned its right to wear an SUV badge. This is why the higher seating position and rugged design don’t stop at just aesthetics: They improve the utility for daily driving.
Is the Grand Vitara's mild off road capability worthy of an SUV or just a glorified hatchback?
31 December 2024 08:04
That's a city SUV, and that's okay. Not everyone needs a Jeep. The Grand Vitara brings the SUV experience without the downsides of a larger, more offroad focused vehicle.
Is the Grand Vitara's mild off road capability worthy of an SUV or just a glorified hatchback?
31 December 2024 08:04
The marketing fluff of SUV styling is mostly that. Think of it as a tall hatchback with some plastic cladding. Maruti should just call it what it is.
Is the Grand Vitara's mild off road capability worthy of an SUV or just a glorified hatchback?

I can confirm that as a person who has taken the Grand Vitara off road, it is more capable than you might think. It’s not a Land Rover, but it can do more than just paved roads.
Is the Fronx’s higher ground clearance actually useful or is it there for show?
31 December 2024 07:55
Absolutely useful! I’ve driven over some nasty speed bumps and rough patches that would have scraped a regular hatchback. Indian conditions are a real advantage.
Is the Fronx’s higher ground clearance actually useful or is it there for show?
31 December 2024 07:55
Honestly, it’s mostly for show. The Fronx is not different enough from a regular hatch to have any real impact on day to day driving.
Is the Fronx’s higher ground clearance actually useful or is it there for show?

During monsoons I find it helpful. When driving through waterlogged streets, it gives me more confidence.
Is the Fronx’s higher ground clearance actually useful or is it there for show?
31 December 2024 07:55
It is nice to have that extra clearance, but it does affect the handling a little. In tight corners there is a higher centre of gravity.
Is the Fronx’s higher ground clearance actually useful or is it there for show?
31 December 2024 07:55
I’ve owned both low riding cars and the Fronx, and I can tell the difference. It's not just marketing hype.
Is the Fronx’s higher ground clearance actually useful or is it there for show?
31 December 2024 07:55
It’s useful, but don’t tell me the Fronx is an off roader, please. It remains a city car at heart, just a little more versatile.
Is the Fronx’s higher ground clearance actually useful or is it there for show?
31 December 2024 07:55
I think it's a good middle ground. It’s not a full SUV, but you get the benefits of higher clearance. It's a perfect car for Indian roads.
Is the Fronx’s higher ground clearance actually useful or is it there for show?
31 December 2024 07:55
The ground clearance is nice, but they should have fixed the approach and departure angles too. That would be really versatile.
Is the Fronx’s higher ground clearance actually useful or is it there for show?
31 December 2024 07:55
I think they could've gotten the same effect with better suspension tuning without raising the body.
Is the Fronx just a jacked up Baleno or does it have its own identity?
31 December 2024 07:55
It's certainly more than just a raised Baleno. The exterior styling is all different and it really has a unique identity. Also, that higher ground clearance really does matter when actually driving.
Is the Fronx just a jacked up Baleno or does it have its own identity?
31 December 2024 07:55
Come on, let's be real. In platform shoe form, it's just a Baleno. They are the same interior, same engines, with some plastic cladding slapped on. Maruti is just trying to join the SUV craze bandwagon.
Is the Fronx just a jacked up Baleno or does it have its own identity?
31 December 2024 07:55
I'd guess it's about in between. Sure, it’s a lot like the Baleno, but the package is different enough. It really changes the vibe of the car.
