What’s the long term cost and environmental impact of the Grand Vitara’s hybrid system versus full EVs?

Electrification is the way of the future for the automotive industry as full electric vehicles (EVs) start to gain more popularity. But hybrid systems like the Grand Vitara’s provide a middle ground between gas and all electric. This leads to questions of long term cost and environmental impact of going hybrid versus full EV. Things to think about are: initial purchase price, fuel or electricity costs, maintenance requirements, what the battery life is going to be, and what the overall carbon footprint of the vehicle will be throughout the entire life of the vehicle. In addition, the conversation typically includes the current charging infrastructure, range anxiety, and the speed of technology in hybrid and EV technologies. The relevance of this debate is particularly highlighted in the case of government policies, incentives and the estimated date of the phaseout of the fossil fuel vehicles in different countries.

Don't forget about the impact on the environment of manufacturing. Compared to full EVs, the Grand Vitara’s smaller battery means less mining for rare earth metals.

The hybrid system is old tech, full EVs are getting better, and the environmental benefits of going full EV far outweigh any hybrid benefits.

That all depends on how you drive. In fact, if you do lots of short trips, the Grand Vitara's hybrid system may be more efficient and eco friendly than a full EV.

Full EVs are better environmentally if you have access to clean electricity. For those who can’t go full electric yet, however, the Grand Vitara’s hybrid system is a great option.

For cost over the long term, the hybrid wins. It's cheaper to start with, it doesn't give you range anxiety, and you're not dependent on charging infrastructure. And battery replacement will be cheaper than in a full EV.

There is no doubt that full EVs are the future. The inevitable is just being delayed by the Grand Vitara's hybrid system. It’s better to go all in on electric now.

Hybrids like the Grand Vitara are the perfect way to get to full EVs. They are still practical for most people now and still provide considerable environmental benefit.
