Are our kids really safe in the Mahindra Supro School Bus?
27 December 2024 11:02
Guys, let's be real. It's safer than half the rickety vans and auto rickshaws that are used as school transport in many places. This thing at least has regular seats and seatbelts. Even if it’s not perfect it’s a step in the right direction.
Are our kids really safe in the Mahindra Supro School Bus?

I'm an engineer and I have looked at the specs. All the government safety standards are met by the Supro. However, compared to some other countries our standards are pretty low. It's 'safe', but it's definitely not perfect.
Are our kids really safe in the Mahindra Supro School Bus?

So as a school principal I had to make the call on these buses. It was a tough decision, but we went with the Supro. It’s a balance between safety, cost, and practicality. We don't have money for those fancy imported buses and this is a lot better than the vans we were using before. Plus, the parents are happy with the change.
Is the Mahindra Supro School Bus really eco friendly?
27 December 2024 11:02
To be honest, calling this thing 'eco friendly' is a stretch. It's better than those ancient smoke belching buses, but it's still running on diesel. If we really care about the environment we should be pushing for electric school buses.
Is the Mahindra Supro School Bus really eco friendly?

Wait, that’s not how it works. Electric sounds great, but what is powering that electricity? It’s still coal power in many parts of India. At least we know the Supro is more fuel efficient than the bigger buses. That’s a step in the right direction.

I’m an environmental science person and I think we’re not looking at the bigger picture. The Supro is not perfect, but it is encouraging more kids onto shared transport rather than individual cars. That’s a win for cutting overall emissions.

Last year, my school got these buses and they made such a big deal about how "green" these buses were. But come on guys, this is more like a PR stunt than the environment really caring. Instead of that, why not invest in some solar panels for the school?

I drive one of these for a living and I can tell you that it does use less fuel than the old bus I used to drive. Right, that's gotta count for something. It's also easier to maneuver, so I sit in less idling traffic. I guess every little bit helps.
Does the small size of the Mahindra Supro School Bus lead to more bullying?
27 December 2024 11:02
The Supro has actually caused me to see fewer bullying incidents since we switched to it. Because the space is smaller, kids can't easily hide bad behavior from the driver. It is easier to watch everyone.
Does the small size of the Mahindra Supro School Bus lead to more bullying?

Are you serious? This is a nightmare, and I ride one of these to school. Your crammed up in there with everyone and there's no where to go if someone starts picking on you. In a bigger bus at least you could move to another seat.
Does the small size of the Mahindra Supro School Bus lead to more bullying?
27 December 2024 11:02
My kid says it's like riding in a big car with all his friends in it. He loves it. The actual size, I think, makes it feel more like a group outing and less like a dreary school bus ride. Perhaps that positive vibe cuts down on bullying?
Does the small size of the Mahindra Supro School Bus lead to more bullying?
27 December 2024 11:02
Former bus driver here. I have never seen the difference in bus size make a difference in bullying. It has nothing to do with setting clear rules and building a respectful environment. Bullying is not caused by or prevented by the size of the Supro.
Does the small size of the Mahindra Supro School Bus lead to more bullying?
27 December 2024 11:02
I'm a bit torn on this. It’s good for catching bad behavior because the driver can hear everything, and the compact size is a plus. That also means that if a kid is having a bad day and wants to be left alone, then there's no privacy. It's a double-edged sword.
Is the Mahindra Supro School Bus really cost effective for schools in the long run?
27 December 2024 11:02
If you’re a school accountant, like me, I can tell you that the Supro has changed the game for our budget. Yes, we needed to buy more of them than big buses, but the fuel savings and lower maintenance costs have paid off over the years.
Is the Mahindra Supro School Bus really cost effective for schools in the long run?
27 December 2024 11:02
I can tell you that's not been my experience at all. We're always shelling out for repairs, our school bought a fleet of Supros. Maybe we just got a bad batch, but it seems like they’re in the shop more than they’re on the road.
Is the Mahindra Supro School Bus really cost effective for schools in the long run?
27 December 2024 11:02
You guys are missing the bigger picture. It’s not just the direct costs. The fact that these buses are easier to maneuver means less wear and tear for the driver. The happy drivers stay longer, which ultimately saves the money on the training and turnover.
Is the Mahindra Supro School Bus really cost effective for schools in the long run?
27 December 2024 11:02
We crunched the numbers, I'm on the PTA, and we approved the switch to Supros. We were worried about the lifespan and it was cheaper upfront. Are we really saving money if we have to replace them sooner than traditional buses?
Is the Mahindra Supro School Bus really cost effective for schools in the long run?
27 December 2024 11:02
The cost effectiveness is based on your situation. The Supro is sensible for our small private school. We don’t need to fill a huge bus and modern features draw in parents. It's not just about money, it’s about the full value.
How does the Mahindra Supro School Bus perform in extreme weather?
27 December 2024 11:02
In Rajasthan, I drive a Supro and it takes the heat like a champ. Even at 45°C outside, the AC keeps the kids cool. It’s small, so it heats up less than the big metal boxes of regular buses.

But try driving one of these in Kerala during monsoon season. I worry about hydroplaning and the wipers can barely keep up. Sometimes it feels like driving a toy car in a bathtub.
