How much better is the Pulsar P150’s engine refinement compared to the older Pulsar models?

There’s refinement, but it’s not class leading. The Honda Unicorn bikes still do feel smoother. Of course, it’s a good compromise for a Pulsar – refined enough for comfort, but still with the sporty flavor.

The engine, I believe Bajaj has done a great job with. Smooth when you want it to be, but still Pulsar grunt when it is open. What they've done is mature the bike without fully changing its personality.

I can say as a mechanic that the improvements in refinement are more than skin deep. It should mean better longevity as the engine internals and balancing are much better. It's not only a matter of ride feel but also a matter of keeping the engine healthy at the end of the day.
How much better is the Pulsar P150’s engine refinement compared to the older Pulsar models?

I don’t think the refinement is worth it. A little smoother, it is also less exciting. The old Pulsar was a raw thing, and you felt wired to the machine. Now this one is a tad too polished for my liking, I guess.

This refinement is just right, coming from other 150cc bikes. It's still characterful enough to be enjoyable, but smooth enough for comfortable daily rides. It’s a good middle ground that will suit both new riders and Pulsar loyalists.

I've test ridden most bikes in this segment and I believe the P150 fares pretty well. The performance and comfort are balanced well. The Honda Unicorn could be smoother and the Yamaha FZ handle better, but as a whole, the P150 comes across as a more complete package.

To be honest, I do not think that the P150 is able to deliver in this segment. Performance wise the TVS Apache RTR 160 4V does better and build quality wise the Yamaha FZ is better. All in all the P150 feels like it is riding on the Pulsar name without offering anything truly exceptional.

I think the P150 is a great, all rounder as a daily commuter. It's comfortable in traffic, has sufficient engines for highway runs, and excellent fuel economy. While there are some competitors that excel in certain areas, the P150 is difficult to top as a total package.

The P150’s biggest advantage, I think, is its value for money. At a competitive price, you get a decent amount of features and decent performance. Of course, there are rivals that will edge it in certain areas, but the whole package is a strong contender.

On a tech level, the P150 is very decent for its price segment. A nice touch that many competitors don't offer is the digital cluster with Bluetooth connectivity. It may not be the best in performance, but it is definitely in the top when it comes to features.

I have owned several 150cc bikes myself and I think the P150 is good, but not great. It doesn't excel in any particular area. The SP 160 of Honda feels more refined, Apache more sporty. The P150 is all things to all people, and nothing to anyone.

I feel we are not looking at the brand factor here. There’s a following for Pulsar, and many buyers care about that. While the P150 may not be the best on paper, the trust in the Pulsar name and Bajaj’s service network has its back in comparison to some competitors.
Does the new split seat design on the Pulsar P150 really increase comfort and practicality?
30 January 2025 10:35
I’ve put about 5000 km on the P150, and I gotta say, split seat makes all the difference in long rides. I don't get that numb feeling after hours on the road, and it gives better lower back support. Also, my girlfriend reports the pillion seat is a lot more comfortable than our old bike.
Does the new split seat design on the Pulsar P150 really increase comfort and practicality?
30 January 2025 10:35
I honestly don't like the split seat. The old single piece seat is more practical but it looks cool. In every way, it didn’t solve the two main problems: There wasn’t a way to stretch and, further, it was impossible to slide off a few inches for a sample. Also, it was a pain to clean all of the nooks and crannies. I miss the old design’s versatility.
Does the new split seat design on the Pulsar P150 really increase comfort and practicality?

I ride with a pillion quite a lot, and to me the split seat is a mixed bag. It's great for short trips, since my partner feels more secure. However, in longer rides, they complain they don’t have enough space to shift around. This is a trade off between security and comfort.
Does the new split seat design on the Pulsar P150 really increase comfort and practicality?

In my opinion, the split seat design is more about style than it is about substance. It may look sportier, but I honestly don’t see much of a difference in comfort. Whatever, it gives the bike a smaller look to me, which I am not too taken with.
Does the new split seat design on the Pulsar P150 really increase comfort and practicality?

I was skeptical at first, but after a while I like the split seat design of it. Forcing you to sit more upright when in the saddle actually helps reduce fatigue on long trips. However, it took me some time to get used to it, at the moment I even prefer it over the old way.
Does the new split seat design on the Pulsar P150 really increase comfort and practicality?
30 January 2025 10:35
Mechanically, the split seat design is actually very smart. Accessing the battery and other components under the seat is easier. You can also replace a single part of the seat, not the whole thing, and secondly, plus, if a single part of the seat gets damaged, you can just replace that single part.
Does the new split seat design on the Pulsar P150 really increase comfort and practicality?
30 January 2025 10:35
The split seat is a step in the right direction, but it's not perfect. The pillion seat is not so good but the rider's portion is great. Perhaps Bajaj might well provide an additional extension pillion seat as a package where two up comfort takes precedence.
Do you think Pulsar P150 is really the worthy successor of the legendary Pulsar 150?
30 January 2025 10:35
Having owned both, I’d say the P150 is a worthy successor in terms of refinement and features. The better ergonomics and smoother engine make it more practical than the Ninja 1000. I do miss the raw feel of the old 150 though, it had more character.
