Our take on this /// Verdict
The Tata Safari Storme Ladakh Edition is a compelling option for those seeking a rugged, versatile, and feature-rich SUV. Unveiled at the 2014 Auto Expo, this variant builds on the standard Safari Storme with several modifications that enhance its appeal. The Ladakh Editions aesthetic tweaks and additional features make it stand out, but what truly sets it apart is its ability to handle diverse Indian road conditions with ease. The vehicles stability, ride quality, and off-road capabilities are noteworthy, making it an excellent choice for both urban and rural driving. However, its important to consider the slightly dated design and technology compared to newer models. Overall, its a solid choice for those who prioritize durability, comfort, and the ability to tackle challenging terrain.
Price
The Tata Safari Storme Ladakh Edition was priced around 1,500,000 ex-showroom when it was introduced. On-road prices would vary depending on the state and local taxes, but you can expect to add another 200,000 to 300,000 to the ex-showroom price. This places the on-road price in the range of 1,700,000 to 1,800,000. While this may seem steep, the additional features and the vehicles robust build justify the cost for many buyers. Its essential to check current market prices and any available discounts, as the vehicles pricing can fluctuate over time.
Latest Updates
Saturday, 10 February 2024 10:55 AM Tata Motors has not officially announced a new Safari Storme, but a render by Bimble Designs shows what a modern 2024 Tata Safari Storme 4x4 could look like. The design retains the original sheet metal profiling with modernized elements like smoked headlight effects, twin-pod LED DRLs, and new alloy wheels. I think this design would be a hit if Tata decided to bring it back.
Friday, 09 February 2024 07:33 PM The Safari Storme, despite its capabilities, faced stiff competition from the Mahindra Scorpio, which was cheaper and had better fuel efficiency. This competition played a significant role in the Safari Stormes declining sales. I think Tata could have done more to compete on price and efficiency.
Friday, 09 February 2024 09:43 AM Bimble Designs has also shown how the Safari Storme could be modernized with new LED tail lights, a connected LED bar, and other design tweaks. These changes make the vehicle look more contemporary and appealing. I think this modernization would attract new buyers.
Tuesday, 31 December 2019 08:21 PM By 2019, the Safari Storme was discontinued due to the inability to make it BS6 compliant without significant R&D investment, given its low sales volume. I believe this was a missed opportunity for Tata to keep a capable SUV in their lineup.
Saturday, 25 August 2018 05:35 PM Tata Motors rolled out its 1500th GS800 Safari Storme SUV for the Indian Army in 2018. This was part of a larger contract to supply 3,192 units of the Safari Storme to replace the Maruti Suzuki Gypsy. The Safari Stormes capabilities, including its 800 kg payload capacity and air conditioning, made it an ideal choice.
Monday, 21 May 2018 10:58 AM Tata Motors commenced deliveries of the Safari Storme to the Indian Army in May 2018. The Safari Storme was chosen for its off-road capabilities and other specifications that met the Armys needs.
Friday, 06 April 2018 06:19 AM In April 2018, the first pictures of the Safari Storme prepared for the Indian Army were revealed, featuring a cool matte green paint job. The vehicle met the Armys criteria, including a hard top and 800 kg payload capacity. I think the matte green looks quite striking.
Sunday, 25 December 2016 01:04 PM In December 2016, Tata Motors was set to sign an agreement with the Indian Army for the sale of 3,192 Safari Storme SUVs after the Christmas holidays. This deal marked a significant milestone for Tatas off-road capable vehicles.
Wednesday, 09 December 2015 03:46 PM In 2015, Tata Motors launched a new powerful variant of the Safari Storme VX, featuring a 2.2-litre VARICOR 400 engine with increased power and torque. The SUV was available in both 4X2 and 4X4 options, priced at Rs. 13.25 lakh and Rs. 14.59 lakh respectively. I believe this variant was a significant upgrade for the model.
Monday, 22 September 2014 08:45 PM There were rumors in 2014 that Tata Motors was planning to bring a facelifted model of the Safari Storme during the festive season. However, this never materialized. I think a facelift would have given the model a much-needed boost in sales.
Mileage
Wednesday, 20 November 2024 09:01 PM The mileage of the Tata Safari Storme Ladakh Edition is a crucial factor for potential buyers. Given its 2.2 Varicor engine, you can expect a fuel efficiency of around 10-12 kmpl in city driving and up to 14 kmpl on highways. These figures are reasonable considering the vehicles size and capabilities. While it may not be the most fuel-efficient option, its performance and durability make it a viable choice for those who prioritize these aspects over mileage alone.

Tata Safari Storme Ladakh Edition Review

Synopsis

Tata has always proven itself in term of the off-road capabilities of its Safari from all the other competitors. No doubt other can do it well, but Tata Safari has always been famous for doing it much better than just well. The proud new Storme gets a totally updated version, made for expeditions only. It has been named Safari Storme Ladakh edition, making it clear that it’s made for the roads less travelled.

The new Safari Storme stays same from its engine point of view and uses the 2179 cc motor, producing 140 BHP and 320 NM of torque. It’s a 4x4 machine, making out the most possible from every kind of terrain. It comes with the same 5-speed manual transmission being used on the normal Safari Storme.

The changes are basically exterior based. It has got the all new styling, starting from the all-terrain tyres for better grip on every type of surface. The tyres are much wider and the suspension would have also been worked upon for a better riding experience. It has got the all new blue theme design, with Grey body cladding all around its body.

It also has a roof mounted storage area, most probably having all the necessary items of trekking like tents, ropes and other equipment. It comes with LED headlamps for much better visibility in non-ideal lighting conditions and a GoPro cam fixed for recording the Ladakh journey.

The vehicle has been specially designed taking care of all the needs of an adventure sport lover, even safeguarding his car from the intense surroundings. The car has been displayed at the Auto Expo 2014 and is expected to stay only as a concept. If ever arrived, it will be for around INR 15-16 lakhs and a fully ready off roader at this price would not be a bad option for every adventure lover.
