Tata Safari Storme Ladakh Edition
Tata Variant
General information and overview
The Tata Safari Storme Ladakh Edition is a special variant of the Safari Storme, designed to celebrate the adventurous spirit of driving in challenging terrains like Ladakh. It retains the robust 2.2 Varicor engine, known for its power and reliability. The vehicle features a host of modifications, including aesthetic enhancements and additional features that make it more appealing to off-road enthusiasts. Its ride quality and stability are among its strongest points, making it well-suited for both on-road and off-road driving. The Ladakh Edition also highlights the potential for customization, showcasing what can be achieved with the right modifications. Overall, its a solid, reliable SUV that is well-suited for Indian road conditions and offers a unique blend of power, comfort, and versatility.
Expert opinion and recommendation
The Tata Safari Storme Ladakh Edition is a compelling option for those seeking a rugged, versatile, and feature-rich SUV. Unveiled at the 2014 Auto Expo, this variant builds on the standard Safari Storme with several modifications that enhance its appeal. The Ladakh Editions aesthetic tweaks and additional features make it stand out, but what truly sets it apart is its ability to handle diverse Indian road conditions with ease. The vehicles stability, ride quality, and off-road capabilities are noteworthy, making it an excellent choice for both urban and rural driving. However, its important to consider the slightly dated design and technology compared to newer models. Overall, its a solid choice for those who prioritize durability, comfort, and the ability to tackle challenging terrain.
Recent news and announcements
Tata Motors has not officially announced a new Safari Storme, but a render by Bimble Designs shows what a modern 2024 Tata Safari Storme 4x4 could look like. The design retains the original sheet metal profiling with modernized elements like smoked headlight effects, twin-pod LED DRLs, and new alloy wheels. I think this design would be a hit if Tata decided to bring it back.
The Safari Storme, despite its capabilities, faced stiff competition from the Mahindra Scorpio, which was cheaper and had better fuel efficiency. This competition played a significant role in the Safari Stormes declining sales. I think Tata could have done more to compete on price and efficiency.
Bimble Designs has also shown how the Safari Storme could be modernized with new LED tail lights, a connected LED bar, and other design tweaks. These changes make the vehicle look more contemporary and appealing. I think this modernization would attract new buyers.
By 2019, the Safari Storme was discontinued due to the inability to make it BS6 compliant without significant R&D investment, given its low sales volume. I believe this was a missed opportunity for Tata to keep a capable SUV in their lineup.
Tata Motors rolled out its 1500th GS800 Safari Storme SUV for the Indian Army in 2018. This was part of a larger contract to supply 3,192 units of the Safari Storme to replace the Maruti Suzuki Gypsy. The Safari Stormes capabilities, including its 800 kg payload capacity and air conditioning, made it an ideal choice.
Pricing details and changes
The Tata Safari Storme Ladakh Edition was priced around 1,500,000 ex-showroom when it was introduced. On-road prices would vary depending on the state and local taxes, but you can expect to add another 200,000 to 300,000 to the ex-showroom price. This places the on-road price in the range of 1,700,000 to 1,800,000. While this may seem steep, the additional features and the vehicles robust build justify the cost for many buyers. Its essential to check current market prices and any available discounts, as the vehicles pricing can fluctuate over time.
Fuel efficiency information
The mileage of the Tata Safari Storme Ladakh Edition is a crucial factor for potential buyers. Given its 2.2 Varicor engine, you can expect a fuel efficiency of around 10-12 kmpl in city driving and up to 14 kmpl on highways. These figures are reasonable considering the vehicles size and capabilities. While it may not be the most fuel-efficient option, its performance and durability make it a viable choice for those who prioritize these aspects over mileage alone.

It has been named Safari Storme Ladakh edition, making it clear that it’s made for the roads less travelled.

The new Safari Storme stays same from its engine point of view and uses the 2179 cc motor, producing 140 BHP and 320 NM of torque. It’s a 4x4 machine, making out the most possible from every kind of terrain. It comes with the same 5-speed manual transmission being used on the normal Safari Storme.
The changes are basically exterior based. It has got the all new styling, starting from the all-terrain tyres for better grip on every type of surface. The tyres are much wider and the suspension would have also been worked upon for a better riding experience. It has got the all new blue theme design, with Grey body cladding all around its body.
It also has a roof mounted storage area, most probably having all the necessary items of trekking like tents, ropes and other equipment. It comes with LED headlamps for much better visibility in non-ideal lighting conditions and a GoPro cam fixed for recording the Ladakh journey.
The vehicle has been specially designed taking care of all the needs of an adventure sport lover, even safeguarding his car from the intense surroundings. The car has been displayed at the Auto Expo 2014 and is expected to stay only as a concept. If ever arrived, it will be for around INR 15-16 lakhs and a fully ready off roader at this price would not be a bad option for every adventure lover.
