Expert opinion and recommendation
The Tata Magic Diesel 7 Seater is a practical and efficient choice for those looking for a reliable commercial vehicle in India. While it may not excel in terms of luxurious features or high-performance metrics, it shines in its core strengths - fuel efficiency, comfort, and versatility. The vehicles 702cc diesel engine, though modest in power output at 16 BHP and 38 Nm of torque, is well-suited for urban and short to medium distance journeys. The smooth 4-speed manual transmission and effective suspension system make it comfortable to drive on Indias often challenging roads. However, the lack of a backrest for the front seat and the noisy engine are notable drawbacks. Overall, it is an excellent option for commercial use, offering a good balance of comfort, fuel efficiency, and affordability.

Professional reviews and expert opinions on Tata Magic Diesel 7 Seater
Tata Motors is a renowned global automobile manufacturer that primarily produces cars, utility vehicles, buses, trucks and defence vehicles. Tata Motors has a wide area of services and operations around the world, including the UK, South Korea, Thailand, South Africa and Indonesia. This is possible only because of a strong global network of subsidiaries and associate companies that include Jaguar and Land Rover in the UK and Tata Daewoo in South Korea. In India, Tata Motors is the market leader in the commercial vehicles industry and stands among the top automakers in India, with millions of vehicles plying on the Indian roads.

The updated norms made it mandatory for passenger vehicles to have less than nine seats to have airbags, speed warning systems, reverse parking sensors and seat-belt reminders. All such vehicles will have to be certified for their crashworthiness, as they built these vans on light truck chassis and hence the vans did not meet the same safety standards as the current cars.
They updated all the models and variants in this segment with hard steel tops, which replaced the soft tops that they featured earlier. Still, the structure and design of these vehicles remained vulnerable to damage. Thus, Tata cleaned out their portfolio by discontinuing many such vehicles that would be a hassle to upgrade to ever-changing norms and moved on to making better cars for India.
Tata Magic hosted a 702cc 4-stroke, 2-cylinder, naturally aspirated indirect injection, water-cooled engine which came paired with the single plate, dry fiction diaphragm type, synchromesh (4-froward), sliding mesh (reverse) gearbox setup. Following the BS3 & BS4 emission norms, the 702cc engine generated a max power of 16 HP at 3200 rpm and a max torque of 38 Nm at 2000 rpm.
Tata Magic’s front and rear suspension was a parabolic leaf spring suspension with a hydraulic double-acting shock absorber. And the vacuum-assisted dual circuit hydraulically activated disc in front and drum at the rear handled the brake duties with the 145-R12 LT 8 PR Radial tyre sections.
Tata Magic featured a Digital Clock, Lockable Glove Box, Sun visor with ticket holder (driver and co-driver), Bottle Holder, ORVM (driver side), Roof Crash System, Music System, Power Socket, Front Bucket Seats (driver and co-driver), fuel tank capacity of 30L, the van had a gradeability of 22% and grade restart ability of 21%.
The Tata Magic had a top speed of 64 km/h and the ARAI-certified mileage was 21.1 km/l but the real-world mileage of the Tata Magic in the city was around 17 km/l and on the highway, it was recorded at around 19 km/l.
Tata Magic was made available in various seating options like 5, 7 and 8 and it was offered in Diesel and CNG fuel options. All the colours for the Tata magic were Arctic White, Laser Red, Skool Yellow and Jet Black. Tata offered the MUV at Rs 4.50 lakh (ex-showroom) before discontinuation and it was a rival to Mahindra’s Maxximo, which offered similar performance at a lower price.
