The Fabia boasts a comfortable ride, minimal tyre and wind noise, and a well-laid-out interior with features like adjustable seats, a digital drivers display, and various Simply Clever touches. It also comes with advanced safety features and a smooth, stable driving experience, making it an excellent choice for both city driving and long road trips. However, it is important to note that the Fabias length, exceeding 4 meters, might make it less suitable for tight city spaces in India.

The Skoda Fabia, although not available in a diesel variant in the current market, is a compelling option for those looking for a practical and comfortable hatchback. If we were to consider the petrol variants available in India, the Fabia stands out for its comfortable ride, hushed cruising, and a wide range of petrol engine options. However, it lacks the excitement of some of its rivals like the Seat Ibiza and Renault Clio. The Fabias strengths lie in its stable and sensible driving experience, making it an excellent choice for daily commuting and long road trips. The interior is well-appointed with a comfortable driving position, simple control layout, and great all-round visibility. While it may not be the most thrilling drive, the Fabias reliability, good fuel economy, and competitive pricing make it a solid choice for those seeking a practical and dependable vehicle.

Despite the lack of a diesel option, the Skoda Fabia continues to be a practical choice with its spacious interior and advanced features like Travel Assist 2.0 and Automatic Parking. I think the absence of a diesel variant might be a missed opportunity in the Indian market where diesel engines are still popular.

The 2024 Skoda Fabia models have been upgraded with new powertrains, but these are all petrol engines. The previous 1.0 TSI unit has been replaced by a newer engine delivering 116PS, an increase of 6PS. This engine is available with a six-speed manual or an optional seven-speed DSG transmission.

The Skoda Fabias design has been refined, featuring Skoda’s recognisable grille and smart alloy wheels, though it remains simple and not overly exciting. The interior has been smartened up but still includes some scratchy plastics. I believe this balance between practicality and aesthetics is a key selling point.

The latest generation of the Skoda Fabia is built on the MQB A0 platform, offering increased boot space of 380 litres and advanced safety features like Front Assist with predictive pedestrian and cyclist protection. However, there is no mention of a diesel engine in this generation.

Skoda has a strong history in motorsport with the Fabia, but this success is primarily with petrol-powered rally cars. The current fourth-generation Fabia serves as the basis for the Škoda Fabia RS Rally2, but there is no diesel equivalent for road use. I think this motorsport legacy could be leveraged to introduce a high-performance diesel variant.

The Skoda Fabia is not currently offered in a diesel variant in India, but if we consider the petrol variants, the pricing is competitive. The ex-showroom price for the Skoda Fabia in India can range from approximately 8.5 lakh to 13.5 lakh, depending on the trim level and engine option chosen. On-road prices, including taxes and other costs, can range from around 10 lakh to 16 lakh. This pricing makes the Fabia an attractive option in the compact hatchback segment, offering good value for money with its array of features, comfortable ride, and efficient engines.

The mileage of the Skoda Fabia in India is quite respectable, especially with the more efficient petrol engines. The 1.0 TSI engines can deliver around 18-20 kml in city driving and up to 22-24 kml on the highway, depending on driving conditions. The 1.5 TSI engine, while more powerful, still manages to offer around 15-18 kml in mixed driving conditions. These figures make the Fabia a viable option for those concerned about running costs and fuel efficiency.
