About
The Maruti Celerio Diesel LDi is equipped with a 793 cc DDiS 125 engine, which is the smallest diesel engine powering a passenger car globally. This two-cylinder engine produces 47 BHP at 3,500 rpm and 125 Nm of torque at 2,000 rpm. The car is available only with a 5-speed manual transmission and lacks the AMT option seen in the petrol variant. The Celerio Diesel offers a well-packaged cabin with adequate legroom, excellent headroom, and a 235-liter boot. The suspension provides a neutral ride quality and predictable handling, making it suitable for city driving. However, the engines poor refinement and lack of power on highways are notable drawbacks. Despite these, the cars excellent fuel economy, Marutis reliable after-sales service, and wide dealer network make it a strong contender in the compact diesel car segment in India.

Our take on this /// Verdict
The Maruti Celerio Diesel LDi is a significant launch for Maruti Suzuki, marking their entry into the diesel engine segment with their first homegrown diesel motor. While it offers several positives, such as its peppy performance in city conditions and exceptional fuel efficiency, it also has some notable drawbacks. The 793 cc DDiS 125 engine, although efficient, is unrefined and noisy, which can be a deal breaker for many potential buyers. The engines lack of refinement and the noticeable vibrations, especially during startup and idling, are major concerns. However, its light weight and decent driveability in urban settings make it a viable option for those prioritizing fuel economy and city commuting. Overall, its a good choice for those who need a fuel-efficient car for daily city use but may not be the best for highway driving or those seeking a refined driving experience.
Price
The Maruti Celerio Diesel LDi is priced competitively in the Indian market, with an ex-showroom price in Delhi starting at Rs. 4.65 lakh. When considering the on-road price, which includes additional costs such as registration, insurance, and other taxes, the total comes to around Rs. 5.5 lakh to Rs. 6 lakh, depending on the state and local taxes. This pricing makes the Celerio Diesel LDi one of the most affordable diesel cars in India, although the premium over the petrol variant is substantial. The higher variants, such as the ZDi and ZDi (O), are priced at Rs. 5.25 lakh and Rs. 5.71 lakh ex-showroom, respectively, which may be steep for some buyers given the engines limitations.

The Maruti Celerio diesel, launched in June 2015, was priced between Rs. 4.65 lakhs and Rs. 5.95 lakhs, making it one of the most affordable diesel passenger cars in India. The vehicle came in variants of LDi, VDi, and ZDi, with features like AC, power steering, and dual airbags in the higher trims. I believe the pricing strategy was a key factor in its initial appeal, though its sales were ultimately affected by other market dynamics.

The Maruti Celerio diesel is powered by a 793cc twin-cylinder DDiS diesel engine, which is the smallest diesel engine in the passenger car segment in India. This engine produces 47 bhp and 125 Nm of torque, paired with a 5-speed manual transmission. I think the engines light weight and high torque-to-displacement ratio were significant technological advancements.

Maruti Suzukis Celerio diesel boasts an ARAI-rated fuel efficiency of 27.62 km/l, making it Indias most fuel-efficient diesel car at the time of its launch. This efficiency was a major selling point, especially in a market where fuel costs are a significant concern. I believe this fuel efficiency was a strong selling point, but real-world mileage varied slightly.

The Celerio diesels design remains identical to the petrol and CNG versions, with the only external difference being the DDiS badge. The car features a 7-inch touchscreen, push-button start/stop, and keyless entry, among other amenities. I think the decision to keep the design consistent was wise, as it maintained brand recognition.

Despite its promising features, the Maruti Celerio diesel saw low sales numbers and was eventually phased out just a year after its launch. The company had to sell the leftover inventory with significant discounts. I believe the markets shift towards other models and consumer preferences played a crucial role in its limited success.
Mileage
Wednesday, 20 November 2024 01:58 PM
The Maruti Celerio Diesel LDi boasts an impressive fuel efficiency, with an ARAI-rated mileage of 27.62 kmpl. This makes it one of the most fuel-efficient cars in India, which is a significant advantage for buyers concerned about running costs. In real-world conditions, you can expect a mileage of around 22-25 kmpl, which is still very commendable. This fuel efficiency, combined with the cars affordable pricing, makes it an attractive option for those looking to minimize their fuel expenses.
