Yamaha has updated the YZF-R3 motorcycle for the 2023MY in Japan, bringing along some visual enhancements in a bid to improve its appeal. We believe that these subtle changes will also likely be carried over to the India-spec model that is set to go on sale in the coming months

Yamaha has unveiled the 2025 YZF-R3 with a fresh design inspired by the new R9, featuring sharper front and side fairings, LED projector lights, and a more aerodynamic profile. The bike is available in three colors: Team Yamaha Blue, Lunar White with Nebula Blue, and Matte Stealth Black. I think the new design gives the R3 a much-needed aggressive look that will appeal to younger riders.

The 2025 Yamaha R3 now comes with several new features, including a slip-and-assist clutch, an optional up-only quickshifter, and a new LCD digital instrument cluster with Bluetooth connectivity. However, it still lacks a color TFT display, which is a bit disappointing given the competition. I believe these updates make the R3 more user-friendly, especially for city riding.

Yamaha is expected to showcase the new YZF-R3 at the 2025 Bharat Mobility Expo in New Delhi, with a potential launch soon after. The bike retains its 321cc liquid-cooled twin-cylinder engine producing 41 bhp and 29.5 Nm of torque, but now includes improvements like a narrower front section of the rider seat for better accessibility. I think this expo will be a great platform for Yamaha to highlight the R3s practical and performance aspects.

The updated 2025 Yamaha R3 will continue to be priced as a premium offering in India, likely around Rs 4.65 lakh (ex-showroom), making it more expensive than competitors like the Aprilia RS 457 and KTM RC 390. Despite the cost, the R3s reliability and performance make it a solid choice for those seeking a no-nonsense sports bike. I believe the price might be a deterrent for some, but the R3s quality justifies the cost.

The new Yamaha R3 features revised side fairing panels and a reworked tail section, aligning with Yamahas latest R design philosophy. The bike also gets all LED lights, including indicators, and a golden finish on the upside-down front forks. I think these aesthetic changes will make the R3 stand out more on Indian roads.
