Oben Electric Rorr
About
The Oben Rorr is a smart-looking electric motorcycle designed for everyday commuting in India. It features a retro design with a muscular stance, round headlamp, and LED lighting all around. The bike is powered by a permanent magnet motor, which in its latest iteration produces 8kW and 52Nm of torque, though it was previously more powerful. It comes with three riding modes Eco, City, and Havoc, each catering to different needs. The Rorr uses LFP batteries, known for their safety and ability to withstand higher temperatures, making them suitable for Indias climate. The bikes chassis is well-sorted, providing stable and predictable handling, although the suspension could be softer for better comfort on uneven roads. Despite some quality and finish issues, the Rorr remains a compelling option for those looking for a powerful and relatively affordable electric motorcycle.

Our take on this /// Verdict
The Oben Rorr is a promising yet imperfect entry into the Indian electric motorcycle market. While it boasts impressive performance, particularly in its Havoc mode with brisk acceleration up to 70-80 kmph, it falls short in several key areas. The bikes fit and finish are subpar, with loose panels, exposed wires, and a generally rough surface finish on some metal parts. The suspension, though improved in recent updates, remains on the firm side, which can make city riding uncomfortable. However, the Rorrs handling is predictable and stable, even at higher speeds. Despite these issues, the Rorr remains a viable option for those seeking a high-range electric motorcycle at a competitive price, especially considering its use of safer LFP batteries. However, with the recent price hike to Rs 1.5 lakh ex-showroom, it faces stiffer competition, making it essential for Oben to address these quality concerns to stay competitive.
Price
The Oben Rorr has undergone significant price changes since its launch. Initially priced at Rs 1 lakh ex-showroom in Maharashtra, thanks to central and state subsidies, it was an attractive option. However, with the reduction in subsidies, the price has increased substantially to Rs 1.5 lakh ex-showroom. On-road prices will vary depending on the state, but you can expect to add around Rs 10,000 to Rs 20,000 for registration, insurance, and other costs. This price hike places the Rorr in a more competitive segment, where it must contend with other established electric two-wheelers. While the price is still reasonable for the performance and range offered, the value proposition is somewhat diminished compared to its initial launch.

Mileage
Monday, 18 November 2024 02:49 PM
The mileage of the Oben Rorr has seen some revisions, particularly with the updated model. Initially, the bike was claimed to offer a real-world range of 100km in Havoc mode and up to 150km in Eco mode. However, the updated version sees a reduction in range, with Eco mode now offering around 120km and Havoc mode limited to about 70km. The IDC range has also dropped from 200km to 187km. In practical terms, this means the Rorr still offers usable range for daily commutes, but the reduced figures might be a concern for those who need longer ranges. The battery capacity remains at 4.4kWh, and the charging time is impressive at just 2 hours from empty to full using a 15A plug-point.
