Our take on this /// Verdict
The LML NV 2 Stroke ES is a nostalgic ride that brings back memories of the classic scooters from the past. While it may not compete with the modern scooters in terms of technology and features, it has a certain charm that appeals to those who value simplicity and durability. The 149.56cc, single-cylinder, 2-stroke engine provides adequate power for city commuting, generating 8.44 bhp at 5500 rpm and 11 Nm of torque at 3250 rpm. The four-speed constant mesh gearbox is smooth, although the lack of an electric start might be a drawback for some. The scooters build quality is robust, with a pressed steel sheet monocoque structure, and the hydraulic mono shock absorbers provide a comfortable ride. However, the absence of modern features like ABS and digital instrumentation might make it less appealing to tech-savvy buyers. Overall, its a reliable and economical option for those seeking a no-frills, easy-to-maintain scooter.
Price
The LML NV 2 Stroke ES, although discontinued in 2010, was reintroduced briefly in 2015. During its reintroduction, the ex-showroom price in Delhi was around Rs. 45,468. On-road prices would have varied depending on the state and local taxes, but you could expect an additional Rs. 5,000 to Rs. 7,000, making the on-road price approximately Rs. 50,468 to Rs. 52,468. Given its current discontinued status, purchasing this scooter would likely involve the used market, where prices can fluctuate widely based on the scooters condition and mileage.

LML NV 2 Stroke ES Review

Detailed Review by Maxabout Team

Overview

LML was one of the initial two wheeler manufacturers which shook the Indian market with their scooters. In 80s and 90s, these scooters were quite popular in India. After that, 100cc motorcycles entered our Indian market which completely phased out these scooters and now once again after a long time LML is back with their iconic scooter, NV. Check out more about this scooter in detail.

Design and Style

The time has changed but looking at this scooter; it doesn’t seem so. LML is still stuck with its old school designing. The round shaped headlight, vertically placed orange colored side indicators and flat body panels straight away takes you two decade back. It has an extremely wide front fender which forms the broad nose of this scooter. Its elongated front body panels looks classy with metallic finish. The new scooter features stylish wheel covers which completely covers its tyres. The spare wheel is placed on the left side of this scooter which used to be a characteristic feature of LML scooters. New silver finished foot rest can also be noticed close to this spare wheel. LML has put a long seat on this scooter with black colored grab rail at the back. The right side panel which looks extremely curvy features the name of this scooter. The tail section features a big tail light with side indicators placed on its side panels. It’s a low positioned tail light which gives fresh appeal to this scooter. The rear tyre is almost invisible from the back as it gets covered by the rear mud flap. The number plate sits just below its tail light.

Instrument Console

LML NV has a very basic analogue instrument console. It features an analogue speedometer, odometer and fuel gauge. Few other indicators can also be seen inside this console. The small circular dial looks old and we think LML should have made some changes in this department.

Engine and Gearbox

The scooter still uses a mono cylinder 2-stroke 150cc engine. This air-cooled engine generates a maximum power output of 8 bhp at 5500 rpm. The maximum torque output of this engine which is of 13.5Nm arrives at 3500 rpm. The regular four speed manual gearbox of LML is used in this scooter. It has one gear up and three gears down shift pattern.

Acceleration and Performance

LML scooters were famous for great pick up, powerful performance and this new scooter is no different. From the very first move, this scooter feels on the faster side. Its throttle response is better than any other entry level bike in India. The short gear ratios quickly supply the power of this engine and that’s quite helpful when you drive it in city traffic. The scooter does 0-60km/hr in less than 8 seconds which indicates towards its fast performance. This scooter can reach the top speed of 85km/hr. The gearbox has improved significantly and feels much lighter than before. The refinement level has also been increased and that’s quite evident when you push this scooter to its limits. It makes less noise and tries its level best to stay away from vibrations. There is no turbo lag in this engine as its torque arrives as early as 3300rpm. There is no need of frequent gear shifts as it picks up easily from the speed of 30km/hr in its top gear.

Mileage

The scooter may return you a mileage of around 45-50km/ltr in city conditions while its fuel efficiency ranges from 50-55km/ltr on long runs.

Comfort while Driving

That’s the department where it feels better than any entry level motorcycle and gearless scooter. One can relax on its long and highly fabricated seat which offers immense amount of comfort. Your legs enjoy enough space on its foot board while you can also use the brake pedal easily. The new age handle bar offers firm palm grip and you will have clear view of roads thanks to its high seating position. We wish if it had better plastic buttons on its handlebar as they are quite harsh to touch and feels down market. The newest comfort feature in this scooter is an optional electric start which proves to be a boon in city traffic where you frequently need to turn on/off your vehicle.

Storage Space and Safety Features

LML NV has enough amount of storage space which is one of its biggest USPs. The lockable glove box at its front can help you to carry essential things while there is also enough space on its foot board which can be used to transport boxes and bags. The bag hook is quite useful also which is placed just above its foot board. Apart from its powerful headlight, its front body also can be considered in the list of safety features as it saves the legs of rider at the time of direct collision.

Suspension and Brakes

The old suspension system of NV has been retained in this scooter. Hydraulic mono shock absorbers do duty in this scooter. Both wheels of NV feature drum brakes. It front drum brake is of 110mm while it has a rear drum brake of 130mm. There is no optional disc brake in this scooter.

Ride and Handling

LML NV has a wheelbase of 1235mm which makes it stable at high speeds. Its high ground clearance of 160mm improves its turning abilities. It’s still quite scary around corners as its suspension system and tyres fail to keep this scooter grounded. Sudden braking results into rear tyre skid which takes away the confidence from you at high speeds. Yes, the light handling of this scooter is quite enjoyable in city traffic. You can easily park it in tight spaces.

Tyre Size, Shades and Variants

LML NV has R10 sizes of tyres. It’s available in two colors and two variants.

Verdict

LML NV is priced at INR 36000 (ex-showroom, Delhi (approx., may vary)). Certainly, this scooter looks classy and offers comfortable rides but you can’t say it’s a complete value for money thing. Its poor fuel economy, resale value and high maintenance are enough reasons to keep you away from it. Moreover, it makes no sense to spend money on an out-dated technology which has no future in India.
