Harley-Davidson LiveWire Electric Motorcycle

About
The Harley-Davidson LiveWire is a fully-electric motorcycle that marks a significant departure from Harleys traditional gasoline-powered bikes. Powered by a 15.5kWh lithium-ion battery, it features the Revelation motor, which delivers 105PS of power and 116Nm of torque. This results in blistering acceleration, with 0-100kmph achieved in just 3 seconds. The bike boasts a sporty stance, with design elements reminiscent of the Sportster and XR models, and it includes advanced features like a 4.3-inch display, four riding modes (Range, Rain, Road, and Sport), and high-end suspension and braking systems. The Livewire also comes with IMU-aided traction control and cornering ABS, ensuring top-notch safety. Despite its weight of 249kg, the bike feels nimble and handles exceptionally well, making it a joy to ride on both urban and winding roads. However, the limited range and charging infrastructure remain key considerations for potential buyers in India.

Our take on this /// Verdict
The Harley-Davidson LiveWire is a game-changer in the electric motorcycle segment, offering a unique and exhilarating riding experience that sets it apart from its traditional gasoline-powered counterparts. Despite not being available for sale in India yet, my experience with the LiveWire on Indian roads was nothing short of impressive. The bikes performance is staggering, with 0-100kmph achieved in just 3 seconds, thanks to its powerful Revelation motor producing 105PS of power and 116Nm of torque. The handling and braking are exceptional, with high-end Showa suspension and Brembo brakes providing confidence even in demanding conditions. However, the limited range of about 235km and the lack of charging infrastructure in India could be significant deterrents for potential buyers. Overall, the LiveWire is a fantastic bike that promises a thrilling ride, but its practicality in the Indian market remains to be seen.
Price
The Harley-Davidson LiveWire, although not currently on sale in India, is priced around Rs 22 lakh in the USA, which gives us a rough idea of what to expect if it were to be launched here. If we consider the usual import duties and taxes, the ex-showroom price in India could easily exceed Rs 30 lakh. Adding on-road costs such as registration, insurance, and other local taxes, the on-road price could push upwards of Rs 35 lakh. This makes the LiveWire a premium offering, targeting a niche market of enthusiasts who are willing to invest in cutting-edge technology and performance.
Latest Updates
Thursday, 24 October 2024 10:48 PM LiveWire Group Inc. reported its third quarter 2024 financial results, showing a consolidated net loss of $22.7 million, despite a double-digit increase in unit sales compared to the same period in 2023. The company sold 99 electric motorcycles in Q3, contributing to a triple-digit increase in year-to-date sales. LiveWire remains the top seller of on-road electric motorcycles in the U.S. but has lowered its 2024 sales projection to 600-1,000 units. I think this reduction in sales projection is a clear sign of the challenges in the electric motorcycle market.
Monday, 07 October 2024 07:17 PM LiveWire announced a significant investment of $89 million in Harley-Davidsons York, Pennsylvania factory, funded by the Inflation Reduction Act. This investment aims to bolster domestic electric vehicle production and will result in the hiring of 125 new employees. This move indicates a commitment to expanding electric motorcycle production despite current sales challenges. I believe this investment could be a turning point for LiveWires production capabilities.
Monday, 15 July 2024 10:33 PM In the second quarter of 2024, LiveWire saw a 35% increase in sales with 158 units sold, marking a year-over-year triple-digit increase compared to 2023. Despite this growth, total sales for the first half of 2024 remained under 300 units. LiveWire has projected sales of between 1,000 and 1,500 units for the entire year. The company is focusing on cost reduction and portfolio expansion. I think the slow but steady growth is a positive sign, but they need to accelerate sales significantly.
Saturday, 01 June 2024 07:22 PM LiveWire introduced the S2 Mulholland, a performance cruiser built on the S2 Arrow platform, which is cheaper to produce and features a smaller 10.5 kWh battery compared to the LiveWire ONEs 15.4 kWh battery. The S2 Mulholland has a city range of 121 miles and a 0-60 mph time of 3.3 seconds. It does not support Level 3 fast charging. This new model aims to offer a more affordable option in the electric motorcycle segment. I believe the Mulholland could attract more buyers due to its lower cost.
Monday, 20 May 2024 11:03 PM The LiveWire ONE electric motorcycle features the Revelation™ powertrain, delivering 100 horsepower and 86 ft-lbs of torque. It has a lightweight cast-aluminum frame, SHOWA® SFF-BP® fork, and BFRC™ rear shock for agile handling. The bike also includes advanced features like Bluetooth and cellular connectivity, and a fast-charging system that can recharge to 80% in 40 minutes. This technology makes the LiveWire ONE a compelling option for those looking for a high-performance electric motorcycle. I think the tech integration is one of its strongest selling points.
Thursday, 11 January 2024 12:32 AM LiveWire Group Inc. was spun off from Harley-Davidson in December 2021 and went public in 2022 as a special-purpose acquisition company. Harley-Davidson retains the majority stake in LiveWire. The LiveWire ONE, previously known as the Harley-Davidson LiveWire, saw its MSRP reduced to $22,799 to make it more competitive. This strategic move aims to boost sales in the electric motorcycle market. I believe this rebranding and pricing adjustment were necessary steps.
Friday, 15 December 2023 04:51 PM The LiveWire ONE has a range of 146 miles in city driving, 95 miles in combined stop-and-go conditions, and 70 miles on the highway. It features a Cornering Enhanced Traction Control System (C-TCS) and dynamic ride modes including Regen, Power, and Throttle modes. These features enhance rider control and confidence. The bikes performance, including a 0-60 mph time of 3.0 seconds and a top speed of 110 mph, makes it a strong contender in the electric motorcycle market. I think the range and performance make it a viable option for daily use.
Saturday, 15 April 2023 08:38 PM LiveWire reported weak sales in the first quarter of 2024, selling only 117 motorcycles. Despite this, the company maintained its position as the 1 on-road electric motorcycle retailer in the U.S. for the first half of 2024. LiveWire is committed to cost-reduction initiatives and investing in new products. This slow start highlights the challenges in the electric motorcycle market. I believe they need to focus on marketing and customer education to boost sales.
Thursday, 01 September 2022 07:17 PM The LiveWire S2 Del Mar, introduced in 2022, uses the S2 Arrow platform and has a smaller battery compared to the LiveWire ONE. It lacks Level 3 fast charging capabilities but offers a more affordable entry point into the LiveWire lineup. This model is part of LiveWires strategy to expand its product range and attract more buyers. I think the Del Mar is a step in the right direction for market diversification.
Saturday, 01 June 2019 10:18 AM Harley-Davidson initially introduced the Project LiveWire electric motorcycle in 2014 as part of its More Roads strategy. The production version, launched in 2019, was the first Harley-Davidson powered by an electric motor. Despite its 105 horsepower and positive reviews, the bike struggled with a nearly $30,000 price tag. This early model set the stage for LiveWires future electric motorcycle endeavors. I think the initial high price was a major barrier to adoption.
Mileage
Tuesday, 19 November 2024 02:02 PM When it comes to mileage, the Harley-Davidson LiveWire offers a claimed range of 235km in city riding and about 152km on highways. In practical terms, this translates to a decent range for urban commuting and short trips, but it may not be sufficient for long-distance travel. The charging time, however, is quite efficient, with an 80 charge achievable in just 40 minutes using a fast charger. This makes it viable for daily use, but users need to be mindful of the charging infrastructure available in their area.

Harley-Davidson LiveWire Electric Motorcycle Review

22 Dec, 2015 05:32 AM

Quick Review by Maxabout Team

Harley Davidson is known for its massive productions in the biking segment and after a long research on a new segment of motorcycles. Project Livewire had a really tough time for Harley as developing a new source of power is something else, but fitting the same in a limited spaced motorcycle is really a tough job to be done. The result of the project was a massive looking cafe racer, which really shows how neatly technology has mixed with elegance.

Design & Style

The motorcycle has every bit of it wrapped in technology, yet on the other side shows how classic it actually is. Livewire has been developed with a motive to overcome the use of fossil fuels, yet has no compromise with the styling of the bike. LED's have been very nicely placed on each of the indication of the bike. The placement of the rear view mirrors below the handlebar makes a different style statement with the indicators embedded on them. Use of chrome at the necessary places truly justifies the perfection of the bike.

Instrument Console

The instrument console has been simplified and beautifully presented in the form of a single display unit, making no announcement whether it’s an LCD or an LED. Each detail would be digitally displayed and real time battery performance and statistics would be visualized.

Engine & Performance

The engine fully feeds on electric power and in return delivers 74 BHP of power and 70 NM of torque. On the Eco-friendly power source, the bike performs very well and achieving the top speed of 148 kmph is really an impressive factor for the motorcycle. It just takes 4 seconds to a 60 kmph sprint and with more research going on the project, further development is eagerly expected.

Brakes and Suspension

The Livewire gets a massive disc brake at the front and a comparatively smaller one for the rear. Provision of ABS is not yet declared. The front gets the adjustable telescopic forks whereas the rear is managed by a monoshock suspension unit. The front tyres measures 18 inch whereas the rear is 17 inches. The rear of the livewire gets a tyre-hugger as the length of the seat is not exactly long enough for a mudguard.

Shades and Expected Price

The livewire has been seen yet in the Black shade, with traces of Red, Grey and Chrome in it. It has been priced approximately INR 12,00,000 (may vary).
