Our take on this /// Verdict
The Harley-Davidson LiveWire is a game-changer in the world of motorcycles, offering an exhilarating and uniquely silent riding experience. Its electric motor delivers instantaneous torque, launching the bike from 0-100kmph in just 3 seconds, making it one of the quickest motorcycles on the road. The bikes handling is exceptional, thanks to its sporty stance, high-end Showa suspension, and Brembo brakes. The four pre-programmed rider modes Road, Sport, Rain, and Range provide versatility and control, making it suitable for various riding conditions. However, the charging infrastructure remains a significant hurdle, particularly in India where fast chargers are not as widespread. Despite this, the LiveWires smooth throttle response, excellent braking, and sophisticated tech make it a compelling choice for those looking to embrace electric mobility.
Price
The Harley-Davidson LiveWire is not currently on sale in India, but if it were to be launched, the pricing would likely be around the same ballpark as its international counterpart. In the USA, the LiveWire is priced approximately at Rs 22 lakh. If we consider import duties and other local taxes, the ex-showroom price in India could be closer to Rs 30-35 lakh. On-road prices would likely be higher, possibly in the range of Rs 35-40 lakh, depending on the state and local taxes. This pricing positions the LiveWire as a premium product, targeting enthusiasts who are willing to pay for the unique experience and advanced technology it offers.
Latest Updates
Wednesday, 24 July 2024 10:11 PM
Harley-Davidsons electric motorcycle brand, LiveWire, has received an $89 million grant from the Inflation Reduction Act to boost its production of zero-emissions motorcycles. This funding will be used to expand and upgrade their 650,000-square foot facility in York County, focusing on more energy-efficient EV manufacturing and waste-reducing paint technologies. The grant is expected to help retain and retrain over 1,300 union workers and hire an additional 125. I believe this investment is crucial for LiveWire to stay competitive in the evolving electric vehicle market.

LiveWire reported significant operating losses, including $29 million in Q1 of 2024, following $125 million in losses in 2023 and $85 million in 2022. Despite launching new models like the S2 Del Mar and S2 Mulholland, sales have been sluggish, with only 117 bikes sold year-to-date in 2024. I think LiveWire needs to address pricing and range issues to appeal to a broader market and turn its financials around.
Friday, 26 April 2024 03:09 PM
Harley-Davidsons decision to spin off LiveWire as a separate company was aimed at appealing to a younger demographic and reducing the perceived baggage of the Harley-Davidson brand. However, the new models still bear a strong resemblance to traditional Harley-Davidson designs, which may not be the best strategy to attract younger buyers. I believe LiveWire should consider more futuristic designs to differentiate itself and appeal to a new generation of riders.

LiveWire has announced the appointment of Karim Donnez as its new CEO, replacing Jochen Zeitz who will remain as the chair. Donnez comes from Bombardier Recreational Products Inc. (BRP) and brings a strong background in driving transformational growth. This change comes as LiveWire prepares for the summer deliveries of its highly-anticipated S2 Del Mar electric motorcycle. I think this leadership change could bring fresh strategies to help LiveWire overcome its current market challenges.
Mileage
Tuesday, 19 November 2024 02:48 AM
The mileage of the Harley-Davidson LiveWire in India would be a critical factor for potential buyers. According to Harley-Davidson, the LiveWire has a claimed range of 235km in city riding and 152km on the highway. In real-world testing, these figures seem realistic, with aggressive riding yielding around 110km before the battery drops to 23 charge. The range mode, which employs significant regenerative braking, can stretch the mileage further, but it comes at the cost of reduced performance. For Indian roads, where traffic and road conditions can vary significantly, the actual range might be closer to the lower end of these estimates. However, with the right riding mode and conditions, the LiveWire can offer a respectable range that should suffice for most daily commutes and weekend rides.
