Bajaj V12
General information and overview
The Bajaj V12 is a commuter motorcycle that inherits its design and some components from its elder sibling, the V15. It features a unique and eye-catching design, with a muscular fuel tank made from metal sourced from the INS Vikrant, an iconic Indian aircraft carrier. The bike is equipped with a 125cc single-cylinder engine, which provides balanced power and excellent fuel efficiency. The V12 comes with a 5-speed gearbox and features like a fuel level indicator and gear position indicator. It has a comfortable single-piece wide seat and a removable rear seat cowl, giving it a café racer-like appearance. While it lacks premium features such as a front disc brake and tubeless tyres, the V12s overall build quality and fit-and-finish are commendable. The bike is ideal for daily commutes, city rides, and even long tours, thanks to its ergonomic seating and robust performance.
Expert opinion and recommendation
The Bajaj V12 is a compelling option in the commuter motorcycle segment, especially for those who value a unique blend of style, comfort, and economical running costs. This bike stands out with its distinctive design, inspired by its elder sibling, the V15, and the nostalgic appeal of being made from metal sourced from the decommissioned Indian aircraft carrier INS Vikrant. While it may lack some premium features like a front disc brake and tubeless tyres, it more than makes up for these omissions with its robust build, comfortable seating, and impressive fuel efficiency. The V12s 125cc engine provides adequate power for daily commutes and occasional long rides, making it a versatile choice. However, the absence of certain features and some minor design quirks, such as the black grab-rail, might be a consideration for some buyers. Overall, the Bajaj V12 is a reliable and stylish motorcycle that offers great value for money.
Recent news and announcements
Bajaj Auto has announced that the Bajaj V12 is set to be relaunched in the Indian market, although no specific date has been confirmed. This move comes after the bike was temporarily discontinued. The new launch is expected to bring some updates to the existing model. I think this could be a great opportunity for Bajaj to refine the V12 and make it more competitive.
The Bajaj V12 is currently priced at Rs. 59,226 (ex-showroom) in Ranchi, with the on-road price being slightly higher due to additional costs. This pricing makes it a competitive option in the 125cc segment. I believe the V12 offers good value for money, especially considering its features and performance.
Bajaj Auto introduced a disc brake variant of the V12, which is priced at Rs. 60,000, a Rs. 3,000 premium over the standard drum brake version. This addition enhances the bikes braking capabilities, making it a safer option for riders. The disc brake variant is a welcome upgrade for those prioritizing safety.
The Bajaj V12 was officially launched in India, priced at Rs. 56,283 (ex-showroom, Delhi). The bike is part of Bajajs V series and is positioned as a premium commuter. It was initially available in two color options: Wine Red and Ebony Black. I think the V12s design and color options were well-received by the market.
The Bajaj V12 features a 124.5cc single-cylinder engine that produces 10.5 PS of power and 10.9 Nm of torque. This engine is paired with a 5-speed gearbox, making it suitable for both city rides and short highway trips. I think the engine specs are well-suited for the Indian markets needs.
Pricing details and changes
The Bajaj V12 is priced competitively in the Indian market. The ex-showroom price for the V12 in India is around Rs. 60,000 to Rs. 65,000, depending on the location and any local taxes. On-road prices, which include registration, insurance, and other costs, can range from Rs. 70,000 to Rs. 75,000. For instance, in Mumbai, the on-road price was reported to be around Rs. 70,256. This pricing makes the V12 an attractive option for buyers looking for a budget-friendly yet feature-rich motorcycle. The cost-effectiveness is further enhanced by its economical running costs and low maintenance requirements, making it a smart investment for daily commuters.
Fuel efficiency information
The Bajaj V12 boasts impressive fuel efficiency, which is a significant factor for many Indian buyers. According to various user reviews and test rides, the V12 consistently delivers a mileage of around 52-55 kmpl in city conditions and up to 58-60 kmpl on highways. This is largely due to its 125cc engine, which is tuned for efficiency rather than raw power. The 13-liter fuel tank further adds to its long-range capability, allowing riders to cover over 600 kilometers on a single fill-up. This makes the V12 an excellent choice for both daily commutes and occasional long-distance rides, ensuring that fuel costs remain manageable. - Vehicle Overview
- V12 is a 125 cc motorcycle, highly based on the popular premium commuter V15. It carries the same basic design as the bigger V series motorcycle while looses some of the premium features like front disc brake, bigger tyres and LED fuel gauge. V12 even carries a different design of 5-spoke alloy wheel and uses the same engine as Discover 125, producing 10.55 Bhp and 10.98 Nm of torque. It rivals Honda CB Shine, Hero Glamour and TVS Phoenix in its segment. It even carries a different pattern of sticker for a unique character.
