 Overview Of Flame DS125 - The Controversy Is Over

Overcoming a technology infringement case from Bajaj Auto, TVS Motors has re-launched the much awaited 'Flame' with Twin Spark Plug technology after obtaining all necessary permissions and clearances in accordance with law. This executive segment bike has been launched as TVS Flame DS125 and it is propelled by 3 valve CC-VTi technology, fired by twin spark plugs. Developed with AVL Austria, this 125 cc three valve engine is tuned to the ideal swirl-tumble port combination so that it delivers superior performance while simultaneously enhancing low, mid range power and delivering high fuel efficiency.

Recently the Madras high court allowed TVS to manufacture and sell vehicles with twin spark plug and triple valve engines. This judgement overturned a February 2008 decision by a single judge bench of the same court, restricting TVS from producing the 125cc TVS Flame, after Bajaj alleged its patent on twin spark plug engines had been infringed by TVS. A division bench of Chief Justice S J Mukhopadhyaya and justice Ibrahim Kalifula held that the technology used by TVS was considerably different from the twin spark plug technology patented by Bajaj.

Design & Styling Of Flame DS125

Flame DS125 sports the same design of Flame SR125 and embraces the contemporary black theme. It borrows the headlamp,front fender, attractive rear view mirrors, body coloured shock absorber springs and special engine cowl from its big brother apache. Flame DS125's styling includes trendy headlight with two position lamps and embedded turn signal indicators which give the bike a sporty finish.

The 240 mm front disc brake is complemented with a chic triangular exhaust that is not only unique but also enhances performance and delivers a pleasing sound with low emissions. The rear end of the bike sports a dual lens tail lamp. Flame DS125 is packed with exciting features like attractive body graphics, alloy wheels, disc brake at the front, electric start and handle bar weights to control vibrations. Ithas been designed to capture attention in one go. The bike has been given a contemporary urban look by having a black theme.

Engine Of Flame DS125

The Flame DS125 is technologically the most advanced motorcycle in the country with a 3-valve 125cc engine and sports the india’s first three-valve CC VTi (controlled combustion variable timing intelligent) engine. The engine’s produces maximum power of 10.5 Bhp at 7500 rpm with 10 Nm at 6000 rpm. TVS has patented the CC-VTi technology of Flame DS125 in Austria and rest of the world. It has sporty deltaedge exhaust that is not just a styling element but also to deliver the smoothest of sounds,lowest emissions and excellent performance. 

The engine of TVS DS125 has two different in take ports, swirl and power port. A swirl motion is created of the intake air-fuel mixture in the combustion chamber, which leads to efficient burning of lean air-fuel mixture and helps improve the bike’s fuel efficiency. The power port opens to allow a high flow rate of the air-fuel mixture to deliver high power in the power throttle mode. The bike gives a mileage of around 65 kmpl on road and performs quite well in heavy traffic conditions.

Instrumentation & Features Of Flame DS125

Flame DS125 features an analogue speedometer but other gauges such odometer,digital clock, fuel gauge, mileage meter are embedded in the digital console. The sporty delta edge exhaust is not just styling element but also to deliver the smoothest of sounds,lowest emissions and excellent performance. Flame DS125 also sports a neat lockable, water-bottle-sized cubby hole ahead of the tank, which will prove really useful in daily use. The plastic tank adornments incorporate the indicators and complete the look, but they have their own utility value too.

Price & Shades Of Flame DS125

TVS Flame DS125 comes with electric start and has been priced at Rs. 49,200 ex-showroom. It comes in dual tone colours of red and black. The company has not put any data about shades and variants of DS125 on official site. More updates soon... Watch this space....
