Piaggio India is planning to launch two new variants of Vespa LX125 in the following months owing to disappointing sales of this lifestyle scooter due to no disc brake feature. One of the models will be disc brake equipped. The other variant has been said to be more sportier. Piaggio is targeted to sell more than double volumes of 90,000 to 95,000 units in 2013 including Vespa LX125 alone. Currently Piaggio’s plants can manufactures 150,000 scooters a year. Vespa LX125 at max is expected to improve the sales by 30%.

The scooter is not expected to give record breaking sales figure due to the fact that the disc brake version of the Vespa LX125 would cost more than that of the drum brake version. To fill the gap between current and targeted sales figure Piaggio is going to launch an automatic scooter which will compete with Activas and Wegos.
