Bajaj Avenger 220 Cruise Review

02 Nov, 2015 12:08 PM

The best Indian made cruiser of all time, Bajaj Avenger is ready with its new update for the festive season. The Bajaj Avenger 220 Cruise, as the variant has been named is more about the face-lifted version of the 2014 model of 220cc Avenger. The bike gets the same imposing low stance being offered by the Avenger 220 with a host of additions to its overall looks. It even now gets its own Avenger logo on the fuel tank.

What's New

The 220 Cruise gets heavenly designing with its chrome dipped parts and accessories. It gets a highway comfort handlebar for fatigue free long distance rides. The front windshield performs excellently well in safeguarding the rider from high speed winds. The new additions include wider rear wheel, longer wheelbase and Avenger insignia on the fuel tank.

Design and Style

The Avenger 220 Cruise gets all-new graphic elements around its body panels. Use of Chrome has been further enhanced for a more premium look. The new exhaust design is purely chrome dipped and looks perfect on the bike. The indicators, suspension, grab rails and the tank design are the major attractions of the Avenger 220 Cruise. The spoke wheel approach further adds to the classy look of the bike. The new Avenger keeps all the elements of the family alive with its perfectly designed front windshield, which also has been fitted onto the chrome front assembly parts.

Dimensions and Weight

The Bajaj Avenger 220 Cruise measures 2177 mm in length, 806 mm in width and 1142 mm in height. It gets a wheelbase of 1490 mm and comes with 169 mm of ground clearance. The bike weighs around 155 kg. The seat height for the bike comes out to be 725 mm.

Instrument Console

The Avenger 220 Cruise retains its instrument console from the earlier generation of the motorcycle series but gets an all-new small digital display. The divided console has a speedometer and digital odometer on the handlebar assembly and fuel gauge on the chrome covered fuel tank section. The perfectly placed tank console is one of its kinds from the Indian list of motorcycle makers and further enhances the looks with its impressive design. The inside of the single pod has been kept black for the Cruise 220.

Engine and Gearbox

The engine on the 220 cruise stays the same 219.9cc oil cooled motor producing 18.8 BHP @ 8400 rpm (19.03 PS) and 17.5 NM @ 7000 rpm. The twin spark, DTS-i engine comes with 2-valves. The gearbox stays 5-speed and no mechanical differences have been made to the motorcycle. The ride quality however has been improved with better gear ratios and material quality. The bike gets a fuel tank of 14 litres and the new Avenger gets comes with 155 kg of kerb weight.

Performance and Mileage

The Avenger 220 Cruise gets an approximate top speed of around 115-120 kmph. It gets wind free ride with its large windshield and returns a mileage of around 35-40 kmpl (approx.). It gets 5 kg of more body weight due to the pillion backrest and an extended handlebar.

Brakes and Suspension

The braking on the front of Avenger Cruise 220 is managed by a 260 mm disc brake whereas the rear gets a drum brake only. The front suspension is telescopic forks whereas the rear uses traditional hydraulic shock absorbers at both the sides. The bike has been typically defined for long rides and gets a relaxed suspension setup and a good amount of braking power. ABS has been missed over from the bike. The front wheel measures 90/90-17 whereas the rear wheel is 130/90-15.

Comfort and Safety

Comfort of the rider is enhanced by the low seat height and perfectly placed handlebar for relaxed riding. The pillion gets a rear backrest, further enhancing he comfort as well as keeping the pillion safe in case of sudden acceleration. The windshield at the front saves the riders from wind blasts. Other comfortable features include its electric starter and comfortable long ride footsteps.

Shades and Ex-showroom Price

The Avenger Cruise 220 comes in Divine Black shade only. It is priced at INR 84,000 (ex-showroom Delhi) and makes a good deal for those who believe in the truth of a real comfortable ride on a long highway stretch. Even the handlebar design with the Cruise 220 has been named as 'Highway Comfort'.

The Bajaj Avenger 220 Cruise comes with a distinct styling and rivals its cousin, the 220 Street in every way. Both have the same pricing but targets two totally different riding styles and riders. Those with a love for chrome cannot miss the new Avenger 220 Cruise for sure.
