Since the debut of the BMW X6, the coupe SUV category has been one of the most intriguing in the automotive industry. In India, though, there are only a handful of coupe vehicles. Tata Motors is gearing up to introduce India's most stylish mainstream coupe vehicle with the Curvv. Design details for the Curvv have leaked, giving us a clear look at its design without camouflage.
The Tata Curvv Design Leaked
There are several segments where Tata Motors currently doesn't have a presence. One of the most notable is the compact SUV segment, now marketed as the mid-size SUV segment (vehicles ranging from 4.2m to 4.3m in length, for reference). This segment is highly competitive, with nine contenders currently. The Tata Curvv will be the tenth, and it promises to be the most stylish.
Initially, there were speculations that the Tata Curvv would be a stretched version of the Nexon. However, with the leaked design, it appears more like a lower-profile Harrier than an elevated Nexon. The Curvv will share its front design with the Harrier and Safari, with slight variations in its LED DRL signatures. Like the Curvv Concept, the production-spec Curvv will have LED DRLs pointing upwards, seamlessly blending into the clamshell bonnet. The LED headlights, fog lights, upper and lower grilles, and lower bumper will closely resemble those of the Harrier and Safari. The wheel arches will have a slightly square design with thicker plastic cladding compared to the Harrier and Safari.
The front windshield and A & B pillars seem to be borrowed from the Nexon. The door frame skeleton might also be shared with the Nexon, but the sheet metal profiling appears more muscular, giving it a broader appeal. The 17-inch alloys on the Renault Captur Platine were considered the prettiest among compact SUVs, but the Curvv's wheel design is likely to become a new favorite. We hope they are 18-inchers though.
Stylish Coupe SUV
From the C-pillar onwards, there's a sloping roofline stylishly merging into the rear. This area is entirely new and unique to the Tata Curvv. Also unique are the flush door handles and the glass roof. Looking at design sketches, it's probable that the Curvv will come with a fixed glass roof instead of a panoramic sunroof. But will it be electrochromic? Only time will tell.
The rear section is not visible in these images, but we can expect a connected LED tail light design and a muscular rear bumper, echoing the front LED signature and front bumper, respectively. A split aero rear spoiler is highly likely, unlike a rear washer and wiper. The sloping roofline might eliminate the need for a wiper, though.
ICE Version Emission Testing Commenced
The Tata Curvv will be launched with petrol, diesel, and electric (Curvv.ev) powertrains. However, all three might not be available at launch. Despite the declining demand for diesel engines, Tata is sticking to diesel engines to cater to diesel enthusiasts. The Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos are the only other rivals offering diesel options.
The launch is expected around mid-2024. The Curvv EV is likely to go on sale first, followed by the 1.5L diesel variant. Tata's new 1.5L GDI turbo petrol engine might launch at a later date. Recently, an ICE version of the Tata Curvv was spotted undergoing emission testing, suggesting it's likely a diesel variant.
