Tata Nexon Review
Expert Review by Maxabout
Introduction
The Tata Nexon made its official debut in 2017 in the Indian car market. It is manufactured by indigenous automaker Tata Motors and is the brand's first crossover SUV and competes in the sub-4-metre crossover SUV segment in the country. In 2020, Tata launched the facelift model of the car and updated it with sophisticated features and style. To offer Nexon lovers variety, the maker has also launched the Dark Edition and Kaziranga Edition Nexon in July 2021 and February 2022, respectively. In 2018, the SUV was examined by the global safety watchdog, GNCAP, and scored a 5-star safety rating, becoming the first made-in-India car to achieve it.
Tata Nexon Design and Style
2023 Tata Nexon has quite an attractive design language and is similar to the Nexon EV in many ways. The front facade of the new Nexon is the most visually appealing feature. The SUV boasts a clamshell bonnet and audacious new daytime running lights that highlight the headlamps for a greater degree of presence on the road. The gloss black grille, along with tri-arrow design patterns, gives it a premium look.
Turning to the side profile, the coupe-inspired grey floating roof is a show-stopper as it travels to the quarter panel via the c-pillar. The roof rails are a necessary practical feature, and they are neatly formed to fall into the rear end without detracting from the Nexon's coupe-like profile.
Tata employs a ceramic strip to raise the beltline, which extends to the rear from behind the c-pillar, and the distinctive side profile consists of a slightly slanted line running through the door handles. The black cladding and black stripe that runs from the front wheel arch to the back add to the SUV's credentials.
On the rear end, the Nexon has some elements that make the SUV drop-dead gorgeous. Tri-arrow LED taillamps to give the rear end a notable appearance. Adding to it are the X graphics that give the rear a triple-tone feel. In terms of body dimensions, the car is 3993mm long, 1811mm wide, and 1606mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2498mm.
Tata Nexon Engine and Gearbox
The brand has offered the new Nexon SUV two powertrain options: a 1.2L Turbocharged Revotron unit and a 1.5L Turbocharged Revotron unit. The first one is a 1.2-L, 1199cc, 3-cylinder, petrol engine which is capable of churning out 120 HP @ 5500 rpm and 170 Nm @1750-4000 rpm when combined with a 6-speed manual or 6-speed AMT. The other one is a 1.5L Turbocharged Revotorq, 1497cc, 4-cylinder, diesel engine that produces 110 HP @ 4000 rpm and 260 Nm @1500-2750 rpm when paired to a 6-speed manual or 6-speed AMT.
Tata Nexon Interior, Instrument Cluster & Boot Space
On the inside, you will find a premium as well as a comfy cabin with a tri-arrow-theme interior finish. The Nexon is the first Tata car to include a push-button start, which is a feature you won't overlook. In a word, the interior and feature package is the SUV's USP. Another feature that contributes to a comfortable long ride for passengers is ventilated front seats.
Furthermore, there is more than enough capacity in this car for four adults and a youngster for extended travel. Cushioning and lumbar support are also good in the back seats. The instrument cluster of the SUV is fully digital and displays a plethora of useful information like a tachometer, trip meter, digital clock, distance to empty, low fuel warning, TPMS and much more. Tata has offered the car with 350-litre boot space for carrying a fair amount of luggage.
Tata Nexon Brakes, Suspension & Tyres
Braking chores in the new Tata Nexon are done by disc brakes at the front and drum brakes at the rear. While the suspension duties are handled by Independent, Lower Wishbone, McPherson Strut with Coil Spring at the front and Semi-Independent; closed profile Twist beam with Coil Spring and shock absorber at the rear. The SUV rides on 16-inch diamond-cut alloy or 16-inch steel wheels depending on the variant. These are outfitted with 195/60 or 215/60 size tyres.
Key Features of Tata Nexon
2023 Nexon SUV comes loaded with all-LED lighting, 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, ventilated seats, an electric sunroof, an air purifier, a rear-seat AC vent and armrest, a cooled glovebox, an 8-speaker system by Harman, floating 7-inch infotainment touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, iRA technology, multi-drive modes(Eco, Sport and City) and many more. For passenger safety, it is equipped with dual front airbags, ISOFIX, and ABS with EBD as standard.
Top Speed, Acceleration & Mileage of Tata Nexon
As far as top speed is concerned, the new Nexon SUV accelerates from 0-100 kmph within 13.97 seconds and can reach a top speed of 180 kmph. The real-world mileage of the car varies from 16-17 km/l for petrol manual and 21-22 km/l for diesel manual. However, these figures might be distinct depending on terrain or driving style.
Colour Options & Variants of Tata Nexon
2023 Nexon is offered with plenty of colour options including Royal Blue, Calgary White, Flame Red, Daytona Grey, Foliage Green while the brand has offered Kaziranga edition Nexon in Grassland Beige shade and there is one Dark edition as well. Ex-Showroom Price & On-Road Price
The ex-showroom price for the Nexon XE petrol manual starts at Rs 7.60 lakh and goes up to Rs 13.95 lakh for the Nexon XZA+(P) KZR diesel AMT. Now, to understand the difference between ex-showroom and on-road prices, the ex-showroom price of a car is the sticker price that does not include the cost of road tax, insurance, and registration. The on-road price, on the other hand, includes the previously mentioned costs as well as the cost of insurance, RC, one-time road tax, extended warranty, and all accessories purchased for the vehicle. It is worth noting that on-road prices in our country vary greatly from state to state.
Tata Nexon Competitors
In the Indian car market in its segment, the new Tata Nexon directly competes with the Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Maruti Vitara Brezza, Toyota Urban Cruiser, Renault. Kiger and the Mahindra XUV300.
Verdict - Should You Buy Tata Nexon or not?
