2024 Skoda Superb Unveiled: A Glimpse into the Future of Luxury Sedans

Introduction

Skoda has introduced the next-generation Superb, and there are strong indications that it could hit the Indian market in 2024. This updated version of the Superb boasts a range of significant improvements, both in terms of its exterior design and interior features.

New Design Language

The new Superb adheres to Skoda's Modern Solid design language, giving it a fresh and contemporary appearance. While in European markets, it will be offered in two body styles – a sedan and a combi (estate), the Indian market is set to receive the sedan version. Let's focus on the design changes for the sedan.

  • The front profile of the car has been revamped, featuring a redesigned front grille, updated LED headlights, and distinctive daytime running lights (DRLs). Skoda has also removed the fog lamps, giving the car a cleaner look.
  • The side profile remains quite similar, but there have been subtle adjustments to the shoulder line and the creases along the bottom edge. Additionally, the Superb gets a range of new alloy wheels, available in sizes ranging from 16 to 19 inches.
  • The rear end design has also been updated, with new C-shaped LED tail lamps comprising individual light elements. The rear bumper has been redesigned, and faux exhaust vents have been removed.

All-New Cabin

The most significant changes come in the form of a completely revamped interior. Skoda has embraced a minimalist design approach, which includes offering multiple cabin themes. Some key highlights of the new dashboard and cabin include:

  • Vertical slats that conceal the corner air conditioning vents.
  • A large 13-inch central touchscreen for infotainment.
  • Physical dials for the multi-zone climate control with smart displays.
  • The center console, previously housing a gear selector for automatic variants, now features a tray for your phone and cup holders, accessible by sliding back the tray.
  • The center console also merges with a central tunnel, serving as a front armrest and additional storage space.
  • Notably, the upholstery is crafted from 100 percent recycled materials, contributing to the car's eco-friendliness.

Features & Safety

The new Skoda Superb comes equipped with a wide range of features for a more comfortable and safer driving experience. Some notable inclusions are:

  • A 13-inch free-floating touchscreen infotainment system.
  • A 10-inch digital driver's display.
  • Heads-up display.
  • Automatic climate control.
  • Fast wireless phone charger with cooling.
  • 45W USB Type-A chargers.
  • Powered front seats with a massage function.
  • Ambient lighting.
  • Sunroof.

Safety is a top priority with up to 10 airbags and electronic stability control (ESC). Additionally, the Superb is equipped with an advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) that includes features like turn assist, emergency steering assist, auto emergency braking, and cross-road assist.

Engine Options

The new Superb offers a variety of engine choices to cater to different preferences and market requirements. The available engines include:

  • 1.5-liter turbo-petrol mild hybrid with 150PS.
  • 2.0-liter turbo-petrol with power options of 204PS or 265PS.
  • A 2.0-liter diesel with power options of 150PS or 193PS.
  • 1.5-liter turbo-petrol plug-in hybrid with 204PS.

Transmission options vary, with a 7-speed DSG for most engines and a 6-speed DSG for the plug-in hybrid. Front-wheel drive (FWD) and all-wheel drive (AWD) configurations are available for different powertrains.

Environmentally Friendly

The plug-in hybrid version of the Superb is particularly eco-friendly. It can travel up to 100 kilometers in electric mode and supports fast charging with a 50kW DC fast charger. However, in the Indian market, the 2024 Superb is likely to be offered with turbo-petrol engine options without the plug-in hybrid version.

Launch Timeline

The new Skoda Superb is expected to make its global debut early next year, with the Indian launch anticipated later in the same year. It is likely to be introduced as a completely built-up unit (CBU) and is expected to carry a starting price of around Rs 40 lakh (ex-showroom). In the Indian market, it will be a competitor to the Toyota Camry.
