Skoda Superb and Octavia Set for India Comeback

Skoda is set to make a strong return to the Indian market with the reintroduction of its popular models, the Superb and Octavia. These sedans, which have been household names in India, are making a comeback after a period of absence. Despite their past success in the Indian market, both cars have been missing from Skoda showrooms, leaving customers eager for their return.

Skoda's Strategic Approach

Petr Janeba, brand director at Skoda Auto India, has outlined the company's strategic approach for the Indian market. Skoda plans to focus on two key areas: locally manufactured cars, such as the Kushaq and Slavia produced in Pune, and cars with parts imported from the Aurangabad plant, including the Octavia and Superb.

Skoda Superb: The First to Return

The Skoda Superb is set to make its return to Indian showrooms first. Skoda will reintroduce the previous-generation Superb initially, likely in the luxurious Laurent and Klement trim. This model is expected to be imported and will be equipped with a BS6 Phase 2-compliant 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine, delivering 190hp and 320Nm of torque. The Superb will feature a 7-speed DSG twin-clutch gearbox and will accelerate from 0-100kph in 7.8 seconds. However, the imported Superb is expected to come with a higher price tag, starting at around Rs 43 lakh.

Skoda Octavia: Following the Superb

Following the reintroduction of the Superb, Skoda plans to bring back the Octavia. The Octavia, which first debuted in India in 2001, has been a popular choice among Indian car buyers for its practicality and fun-to-drive nature. While there is no set timeline for the Octavia's return, Skoda is committed to reintroducing this model to the Indian market. The process may involve imports to expedite the availability of the Octavia in India, which could take around 18 months due to emissions testing requirements. Skoda aims to keep the Octavia in production until 2034 with a series of facelifts and updates planned to keep the model fresh and competitive.
