Skoda Superb Re-Launching in India on April 3

Skoda is making a grand reentry into the Indian market with the relaunch of its flagship sedan, the Superb. According to recent reports, the updated Superb is set to hit Indian roads on April 3, 2024. Skoda discontinued the sedan last year due to a decline in sales, but it's now returning in its third generation. The new Superb will likely come in a single top-spec Laurin & Klement model, boasting enhanced features and advanced ADAS technology.

Previously, the Superb was assembled in India as a CKD (Completely Knocked Down) model at Skoda's Aurangabad facility. However, this time, Skoda plans to introduce the B8 generation Superb through the Completely Built Unit (CBU) route. This version is expected to feature upscale equipment such as 17-inch Stratos alloy wheels, LED fog lamps with cornering function, and adaptive auto LED headlamps. Buyers will have a choice of three colors: Rosso Brunello, Water World Green, and Magic Black.

Powertrain Options

The new Superb, which recently debuted in the UK, offers various powertrain options globally. These include a 1.5-liter plug-in hybrid, a mild hybrid, 2-liter TSI turbocharged petrol engine, and a 2-liter TDI diesel engine.

The 2.0-liter turbo-petrol engine meets BS6 Phase II norms and delivers 188bhp of power and 320Nm of torque. It comes paired with a seven-speed DSG twin-clutch gearbox and accelerates from 0 to 100km/h in 7.8 seconds.

Interior and Safety Features

Inside, the Superb promises luxury with a 13-inch infotainment system featuring a Wired Smart Link ventilated 12-way electrically adjustable front seats and a driver's seat massage function. Passengers can enjoy amenities like a 10.25-inch Virtual Cockpit, 3-zone automatic climate control, an 11-speaker Canton sound system, and wireless charging.

Safety features include adaptive cruise control, emergency braking assist, park assist with a 360-degree camera, active tyre pressure monitoring, and dynamic chassis control. The sedan also offers nine airbags for occupant safety.

Expected Price

When previously available in India, the Skoda Superb was priced between Rs 34.19 lakh and Rs 37.29 lakh (ex-showroom). However, as it will now be fully imported, the price is expected to increase significantly, with estimates of around Rs 55 lakh. Skoda may consider local production later to reduce costs. Despite the higher price tag, the Superb will compete with rivals like the Toyota Camry, priced at Rs 46.17 lakh (ex-showroom).
