Exciting News: New-Generation Skoda Superb Revealed, Expected to Arrive in India in 2024

Skoda has unveiled the 2024 Superb the latest iteration of their premium sedan and this fourth-generation model comes with a range of updates and adheres to Skoda's fresh design language known as "Modern Solid". In this overview, we will explore the significant changes and enhancements that this new Superb offers.

Modern Solid Design Language

The 2024 Skoda Superb embraces Skoda's recently introduced design language, "Modern Solid." It is available in two body styles for European markets: the sedan and the combi (estate). However, for the Indian market, only the sedan variant will be offered. The exterior of the car features a revamped front profile including a redesigned front grille, updated LED headlights, and distinctive daytime running lights (DRLs). Notably, the fog lamps have been removed. The side profile maintains its overall shape but has seen revisions in the shoulder line and creases along the lower edges and the new Superb also offers a selection of alloy wheels, available in 16 and 19-inch sizes. At the rear, the design includes new C-shaped LED taillights with individual light elements and an updated bumper design that no longer incorporates faux exhaust vents.

All-New Cabin

One of the most significant updates can be found within the cabin of the 2024 Skoda Superb and Skoda has chosen a minimalist design approach, and the cabin includes several themes for customization. Key elements of the new dashboard include vertical slats that cleverly conceal the corner air conditioning vents, a generous 13-inch central touchscreen, and physical dials for controlling the multi-zone climate system with smart displays. Notably, the center console has undergone changes. It is now operated via a stalk positioned behind the steering wheel, eliminating the need for a traditional gear selector for automatic variants.

In its place, the console features a tray designed for holding your phone and cup holders which can be easily accessed by sliding the tray. Furthermore, this central console seamlessly integrates with a central tunnel that serves as a front armrest and provides additional storage. The interior fabric on this latest generation Skoda is made entirely of recycled materials which highlights the car's eco-friendly features and this is an intriguing feature of the vehicle.

Features & Safety

The 2024 Skoda Superb offers an extensive array of features designed to enhance comfort, convenience, and safety. These features include a prominent 13-inch free-floating touchscreen infotainment system, a 10-inch digital driver's display, a heads-up display, automatic climate control, a fast wireless phone charger with cooling functionality, 45W USB Type-A chargers, powered front seats equipped with a massage function, ambient lighting, and a sunroof. Passenger safety is a top priority with up to 10 airbags ensuring comprehensive protection. Along with these safety measures, the vehicle also has electronic stability control (ESC) and an advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) with turn assist, auto emergency braking, cross-road aid, and emergency steering assist.

Engine Options

In international markets, the 2024 Skoda Superb offers a range of powertrains:

  • A 1.5-liter turbo-petrol mild hybrid with 150PS power, mated to a 7-speed DSG transmission and front-wheel drive (FWD).
  • A 2.0-liter turbo-petrol engine with power options of 204PS and 265PS, available with a 7-speed DSG transmission and offered in both FWD and all-wheel drive (AWD) configurations.
  • A 2.0-liter diesel engine with power choices of 150PS and 193PS, utilizing a 7-speed DSG and offered in both FWD and AWD variants.
  • A 1.5-liter turbo-petrol plug-in hybrid with 204PS, paired with a 6-speed DSG transmission and FWD.

Of particular interest is the plug-in hybrid variant, which offers an electric-only range of up to 100km, supported by a 25.7kWh battery pack. This version also supports 50kW DC fast charging. However, it is expected that in the Indian market, the 2024 Superb will be available with turbo-petrol engine options only, omitting the plug-in hybrid version.

Launch Timeline

The new Skoda Superb is slated to debut in global markets early next year, and there is a possibility of its launch in India later the same year. It is expected to be introduced as a completely built-up unit (CBU) and is likely to have a starting price of around Rs 40 lakh (ex-showroom). When launched in India, it will compete with the Toyota Camry, offering Indian consumers a premium sedan option with a host of modern features and design updates.
