Mahindra & Mahindra is expanding its SUV lineup in the Indian market. They intend to do so by introducing a new off-roader variant that will be a more affordable RWD option.
The Mahindra Thar will soon get a new entry-level RWD variant, and dealer deliveries have already begun. The 4x2 variant will have some changes to the engine options and colour options.
New information about the upcoming Thar has been leaked online. According to the leaks, the SUV will have two powertrain options.
A new diesel engine, the D117 CRDe 1.5-litre unit with 117 PS and 300 Nm of torque, will be available. It will only be offered with a manual transmission. In comparison, the 2.2-litre diesel engine in the 4x4 version produces 130 PS but the same torque output of 300 Nm.
The 2.0-litre turbo petrol mStallion TGDi produces 150 PS and 320 Nm torque in the 4x2 variant. But it will only be available with the 6-speed automatic transmission system.
Mahindra will introduce two new colour options for the upcoming SUV. It will be available in the new colours Blazing Bronze and Everest White. Blazing Bronze is the same colour that is already available on the XUV300 TurboSport. Last year, the XUV300 TurboSport made its debut in the Indian market.
The upcoming Thar will keep most of the features from its predecessor. Like the electric ORVMs, all-terrain tyres, 18-inch alloy wheels, and ESP. Cruise control, touchscreen infotainment, fog lamps, and roof-mounted speakers will also be available.
Mahindra Thar RWD's official launch date is currently unknown. But given the leaks, it is possible that it will hit the market this month.
