Our take on this /// Verdict
The Volkswagen Passat Diesel Automatic is a stellar choice for those seeking a blend of comfort, performance, and practicality. My experience with this car has been nothing short of impressive, particularly its long-distance credentials. The 2.0-litre diesel engine, paired with a 6-speed DSG gearbox, offers a smooth and powerful drive, although there is a slight hesitation in the gearbox response, especially in hilly terrain. The cars ride quality is excellent, especially in comfort mode, and it handles expressway speeds with ease and stability. The interior is well-appointed with features like three-zone climate control, electrically powered seats, and a comprehensive infotainment system. Safety is also a strong point, with nine airbags and advanced safety features. While it may not be the most engaging drive in sport mode, it is undoubtedly a reliable and comfortable companion for both daily commutes and long road trips.
Price
In India, the Volkswagen Passat Diesel Automatic, specifically the Highline variant, is priced around 30-32 lakhs ex-showroom, depending on the region. On-road prices can vary but typically range from 35-38 lakhs, including taxes, registration, and insurance. This pricing positions the Passat competitively in the luxury sedan segment, offering a rich feature set and robust performance. However, its important to note that prices can fluctuate based on local market conditions and any ongoing promotions or discounts. As someone who has reviewed several cars in this segment, I find the Passats pricing to be reasonable given its extensive list of features, comfort, and performance.
Mileage

The Volkswagen Passat Diesel Automatic is quite efficient, especially for a luxury sedan. It can easily deliver a mileage of around 17 kmpl, and with careful driving, its possible to achieve even better figures. My own experience and various reviews suggest that the car can cover over 900 km on a single tank of diesel, making it an excellent choice for those concerned about mileage and running costs.

Poor after sales service costed me to replace gearbox at the end of 8 years, after that slowly car showed ageing and had to replace my throttle body assembly and the ECM. Poor diagnostic skills... they only know to replace the assembly by quoting the VIN based character for each part.. I am fed up but still love my Passat...
Best Features: Comfort, roomy, very large trunk and highly refined petrol engine.
Pros: Good handling
Cons: Very expensive to maintain
