About
The Volkswagen Passat is a car that stands out for its comfort, safety, and cruising capabilities. Powered by a 2.0-litre diesel engine (though the petrol is less common), it produces 177PS and 350Nm of torque, paired with a 6-speed DSG gearbox. The car features Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC), which provides excellent ride comfort and stability, whether on smooth highways or rough city roads. The interior is luxurious, with leather seats, heated and ventilated front seats, and a three-zone air-conditioning system. The Passat also boasts a large 586-litre boot and a range of safety features, including nine airbags. Its solid build and quiet cabin make it an excellent choice for long drives, and its fuel efficiency in the diesel variant is particularly impressive. However, the petrol variant, while smooth, does not offer the same level of efficiency or performance as the diesel.

Our take on this /// Verdict
The Volkswagen Passat, particularly in its petrol variant, is a car that excels in comfort and cruising capabilities, but it is not as commonly discussed or favored in the Indian market as its diesel counterpart. From my experience, the petrol engine, while smooth and quiet, lacks the punch and efficiency that the diesel version offers. The Passats strengths lie in its solid build, excellent safety features, and a remarkably comfortable ride, especially on highways. However, the petrol engines performance feels somewhat muted compared to the diesel, and the fuel economy is not as impressive. For those prioritizing a smooth, quiet drive and are less concerned about fuel efficiency, the petrol Passat could be a good choice, but it may not be the best value for money in the Indian context.
Price
In India, the Volkswagen Passat is primarily offered in diesel variants, and the petrol option is not as widely available. However, if we consider the pricing of the diesel variants for a comparative insight, the Passat ranges from Rs 30.21 lakh to Rs 33.22 lakh (ex-showroom). On-road prices can vary depending on the state and local taxes but generally fall between Rs 35 lakh to Rs 40 lakh. Given the petrol variants rarity, it might be priced similarly or slightly lower, but this would need to be confirmed with local dealerships. The pricing reflects the cars premium features, including leather seats, Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC), and advanced safety features, making it a solid choice for those seeking a luxurious and reliable vehicle.
Mileage
Friday, 22 November 2024 10:43 AM
The mileage of the Volkswagen Passat petrol variant is not as prominently highlighted as the diesel, but based on general trends, petrol engines in this segment typically offer around 10-12 kmpl in real-world conditions. This is significantly lower than the diesel variants 17.42 kmpl. For buyers concerned about mileage and running costs, the diesel version is clearly more economical, especially for long-distance driving.

Poor after sales service costed me to replace gearbox at the end of 8 years, after that slowly car showed ageing and had to replace my throttle body assembly and the ECM. Poor diagnostic skills... they only know to replace the assembly by quoting the VIN based character for each part.. I am fed up but still love my Passat...
