General information and overview

The Renault Twingo is a reborn electric hatchback tailored for India's congested cities, arriving 2026 on the AmpR Small platform with 80bhp motor, 40kWh LFP battery for 263km WLTP range, and brisk city acceleration. At 3.79m long with four doors and seats for four, it surprises with sliding rear benches yielding 360L boot, though limited headroom suits short trips best. Cute LED-protruding design, vibrant cabin with dual digital screens, regen paddles, and 24 safety aids including cruise control elevate it standardly. Weighing 1200kg, it turns tightly for parking ease, with Android software and pop-out rear windows adding flair. Expected Rs 15 lakh ex-showroom makes it accessible versus Tata or MG rivals, with cobalt-free battery cutting costs and eco-appeal for green buyers. I view it as a practical urban pick for low running costs and fun, perfect if your drives stay local and home charging works.

The Renault Twingo is a five-door, four-seat electric hatchback reviving its iconic nameplate on the AmpR Small platform, weighing just 1200kg for agile city performance with an 82hp motor, automatic transmission, and 163-mile WLTP range from its cobalt-free LFP battery. I love its cute LED-lit design, vibrant interior with color-pop dash, physical climate knobs, customizable console accessories, and practical sliding rear seats boosting boot space to 360 litres—surpassing some Golf variants. Standard kit includes dual digital screens, 24 safety features like adaptive cruise, and one-pedal regen via paddles, all in a solid, cheerful cabin. Tailored for India's urban chaos, its 9.87m turning circle and quick low-speed acceleration suit tight streets, though pop-out rear windows and modest rear headroom limit highway family use. At expected Rs 15 lakh ex-showroom, it's a stylish, low-cost EV entry that prioritizes fun, space efficiency, and sustainability for smart city buying.

Our Verdict

Expert opinion and recommendation

I find the Renault Twingo an intriguing electric city hatchback for urban India, with its compact 3.79m length and 9.87m turning circle making it perfect for dodging Mumbai or Delhi traffic jams effortlessly. Powered by an 80bhp front motor, it zips 0-50kmph in about 4 seconds, ideal for quick errands, while the WLTP range of 263km suits daily commutes under 35km that most Indian buyers average. Four doors and adjustable rear seats for four adults offer surprising space, with 360L boot expandable smartly, though headroom lags for taller passengers on highways. LED lights, digital screens, and regen braking add modern appeal, but hard plastics signal its budget roots. At an expected Rs 15 lakh ex-showroom, it undercuts rivals like Tata Tiago EV, promising low running costs at Rs 1.50/km versus Rs 5-7/km for petrol cars, making it a smart buy for mileage-conscious city dwellers eyeing EV incentives. I recommend it for first-time EV owners in metros, but test drive to check charging access, as India's infra grows but remains patchy outside cities.

I find the Renault Twingo a charming electric city hatchback perfectly suited for India's congested urban streets, where its compact size and tiny 9.87m turning circle make parking and maneuvering effortless. With an 82hp front-wheel-drive motor delivering sprightly 0-31mph in 3.85 seconds, it zips through traffic while promising a 163-mile WLTP range that covers most daily commutes under 22 miles without range anxiety. The interior impresses me with its funky body-colored accents, sliding rear seats for flexible space up to 360 litres boot capacity, and standard touchscreen infotainment plus digital driver display—solid build quality belies its sub-Rs 15 lakh price tag. Safety shines with 24 systems including cruise control, and four-level regen offers one-pedal driving ideal for stop-go conditions. Drawbacks like limited fast charging and tight rear headroom for taller passengers don't detract from its appeal as a fun, affordable EV for solo or couple buyers seeking low running costs at Rs 1.50/km. In India's push towards electrics, I recommend it wholeheartedly for city dwellers prioritizing personality, efficiency, and ease over long hauls—it's a smart buy that reinvents urban mobility.

Recent news and announcements

The new Renault Twingo E-Tech is designed with urban life in mind, featuring four doors for easy passenger access and a focus on practicality. The car will have illuminated headlamp surrounds, circular illuminated door handles, and a numerical charging indicator on the front bonnet. I believe these quirky features will make it stand out in the city car segment.

Renault has revealed the new 2026 Twingo E-Tech Electric in India as a city-friendly, small, and affordable electric car. It features updated looks, four doors, and a minimalist interior loaded with smart tech, aiming for 75% lower CO2 emissions compared to average petrol cars. I think this eco-friendly approach is perfect for Indian urban traffic and environmental goals.
January 20, 2025
Renaults Twingo E-Tech electric will have a battery range of approximately 170 miles, which is modest but suitable for city driving. The cars battery efficiency is expected to be best-in-class at 6.2 miles per kWh. This efficiency is achieved through better thermal management of the battery.
January 20, 2025
Renault has not confirmed whether the Twingo E-Tech will be available in the UK, as the decision depends on whether the company feels the car will sell in sufficient numbers to justify the switch to right-hand drive. This uncertainty has left UK buyers hopeful but uncertain.
January 20, 2025
The performance of the Twingo E-Tech is not expected to be its headline feature; instead, it will focus on efficiency and ease of use. As an electric vehicle, it will still offer enough power for quick maneuvers in traffic, making it smooth and comfortable to drive.

Price

Pricing details and changes

In India, the Renault Twingo carries an expected ex-showroom price of Rs 15 lakh, positioning it competitively against local EVs like the Tata Punch EV or MG Comet, with on-road figures in Delhi likely hitting Rs 16-17 lakh after 8-10% road tax, Rs 50,000-70,000 insurance, and Rs 20,000-30,000 registration—far lower than Hyundai Tucson at Rs 30 lakh on-road. I see this as a value win for Indian buyers, as Renault eyes 2026 launch matching Chinese affordability, bolstered by potential FAME-III subsidies slashing effective cost to Rs 12-13 lakh ex-showroom for eligible users. Running costs shine at Rs 1.50/km, versus Rs 6/km for ICE equivalents, saving Rs 40,000 yearly on 15,000km. No major service networks yet, but Renault's Triber success hints at expansion; factor Rs 10,000-15,000 annual maintenance. For budget urbanites, this price-to-fun ratio tempts over pricier imports, especially with leasing under Rs 10,000/month possible via partners—grab it if charging is home-based, as public stations add convenience costs.

In India, the Renault Twingo carries an expected ex-showroom price of Rs 15 lakh, positioning it competitively against entry-level EVs like the Tata Tiago EV or MG Comet, making it accessible for urban buyers eyeing sustainable options without premium outlay. On-road pricing in New Delhi would approximate Rs 16-17 lakh, factoring in around 8-10% road tax, Rs 50,000-70,000 insurance, and minor registration fees—precise figures pending official launch, but this keeps it undercutting pricier rivals like the Hyundai Tucson at Rs 30 lakh on-road. I appreciate how Renault's LFP battery tech slashes pack costs by 20%, enabling this aggressive pricing that offsets India's high import duties on European EVs. For value, it excels: low Rs 1.50/km running trumps petrol hatches' Rs 5-7/km, with minimal servicing needs cutting lifetime ownership below Rs 20 lakh over five years. This makes it a savvy pick for mileage-conscious commuters, though I'd advise waiting for subsidies under FAME-III to potentially drop ex-showroom to Rs 13 lakh, enhancing buy decisions in a market shifting to EVs amid rising fuel costs.

Fuel efficiency information

I rate the Twingo's electric efficiency highly for India, targeting 6.2m/kWh or 160-190km real-world range in city heat, with Rs 1.50/km costs beating petrol cars by 70%. For 30km daily drives, recharge weekly at home for Rs 200/month electricity, slashing fuel bills—ideal buying choice if you prioritize savings over highways.
December 20, 2025
For India, the Twingo's electric efficiency translates to about 15-18 kWh/100km real-world, yielding 160km+ range per charge at Rs 1.50/km running cost—far below petrol rivals' Rs 6/km. Ideal for 20-30km daily city runs, its regen braking maximizes energy recovery in traffic, keeping costs under Rs 500/month. A no-brainer for budget buyers over ICE cars.
