Renault KWID RXT (1000cc)

Renault's small car KWID has won many hearts within a year of its launch. In fact, its not been a year completely since launch but KWID has sold over 80,000 units and led Renault in the monthly list of the ten top-selling car makers in India. What has worked in favour of KWID includes: spacious cabin, SUV-inspired looks, practicality, class-leading equipment and value. Engine was the area where the Kwid lacked behind but Renault took this into consideration seriously and has introduced KWID with a 1000 cc engine. Although the appearance is all the same in the two variants but there are some minor changes that have been introduced in the new KWID along with some excellent figures.

Dimensions and Weight

When it comes to dimensions and exterior features of the Renault KWID 1000, everything is same as that of the existing Renault Kwid. Even in terms of appearance, it is same as that of the regular KWID. That means you will still find it like a Micro SUV with black cladding, wheel arches, and quirky design.

The overall length, width, height goes like 3679 mm, 1579 mm and 1478 mm. It has got a wheelbase of 2422 mm and ground clearance at 180 mm. The boot capacity of this Micro SUV is 300 litres with a fuel tank capacity of 28 litres. The kerb weight of KWID 1000 comes out to be 669 kgs.

Interior

Like the exteriors, interiors are also same for the 1000cc KWID except for some mild tweaks to the color options on the interior. The quality standards have been maintained in this one as well. Just to remind you of the key features Renault KWID 1000 has, here's a complied list: a touch screen infotainment system with Bluetooth, USB, and AUX. To add on to its long list of features KWID also has AC, power windows, digital instrument cluster, body graphics on the doors, and dual tone ORVMs.

The cabin remains the same as that in the Kwid 800cc. The cabin space includes twin glove boxes, large door pockets, central touchscreen and digital speedometer. The single-piece front seats are flat yet comfortable and the rear portion includes a reasonable room for two average-sized adults. The 300-litre boot Kwid has is another amazing feature of the car. This is good enough to accommodate a good amount of luggage. Renault Kwid 1.0 litre gets first in class, ‘Pro-Sense’ front seat belts fitted with load limiters and pre-tensioners and load limiters.

Engine and Mileage

Powering the Kwid is a 1.0 litre, all aluminum DOHC three-cylinder engine which can produce a maximum power of 67 Bhp at 5500 rpm against a maximum torque of 91 Nm at 4250 rpm. So, the engine is bound to give a brilliant performance. The engine is mated to a five-speed transmission. The car has got a claimed mileage of 23.01 kmpl.

Performance

The large engine of the KWID will definitely power up the performance levels. There would be fewer vibrations and less low rev uneasiness. Although you may not experience power delivery to be perfectly fluid in first gear, but as you speed up things begin to settle down. Since the power is more, so it would let you overtake in traffic easily.

Also the improved performance leads to better ride quality and handling on the highway. Yes, there's an issue with the noise levels when you stretch the engine but it indeed isn't too bad. Also at times at steady speeds, you may notice a mechanical whine in the background.

Price and Verdict

The larger 1.0 engine has come up with better performance and reliability. It will be able to deliver a good performance for city use as well as an acceptable one for long out-of-town drives. Being priced at Rs. 3.83 lakh ( ex-showroom Delhi), the new KWID 1000 will prove out to be a budget package for you.
