About
The Mini Cooper Countryman is a stylish and practical crossover that offers a unique blend of luxury and driving excitement. Powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine in the current models, it produces 192PS and 280Nm of torque, paired with a smooth 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. The Countryman boasts excellent handling and steering feel, making it a joy to drive on both city streets and highways. With a spacious interior, ample boot space of 450 litres, and comfortable seating for five, it serves well as a family car. However, the rear seats could be more comfortable, and the ride quality can be firm over rough roads. The Countrymans design is unmistakable, setting it apart from other compact SUVs, and its local assembly helps keep the price competitive in the Indian market.

Our take on this /// Verdict
The Mini Cooper SD Countryman is a unique blend of style, driving pleasure, and practicality, making it an intriguing option for those seeking a luxury urban family crossover. While it may not be a full-fledged SUV, it excels in its own right with a powerful 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine producing 190hp and 400Nm of torque. This engine, shared with the BMW X1, delivers impressive performance, with a 0-100kph sprint in just 7.5 seconds. The ZF eight-speed automatic gearbox is another highlight, though it comes with some torque steer and firm brakes. The handling is superb, with crisp steering and tidy body control, although the ride can be firm at low speeds. Despite some compromises, such as the absence of AWD and limited ground clearance, the Countrymans local assembly keeps the price reasonable, making it a compelling choice for those prioritizing style and driving joy.
Price
The Mini Cooper Countryman, specifically the diesel variant which is no longer available in the current market, was previously priced at Rs 37.40 lakh (ex-showroom, India). However, for the current petrol-only models, the price starts at around Rs 48.10 lakh (ex-showroom) and can go up to Rs 49 lakh depending on the variant. On-road prices would typically add another Rs 5-7 lakh, including taxes, registration, and other costs, bringing the total to around Rs 53-56 lakh. This pricing positions the Countryman competitively against other compact luxury SUVs like the Mercedes GLA, Audi Q3, and Volvo XC40, though it stands out with its unique design and driving experience.

Mileage
Thursday, 21 November 2024 01:46 AM
The mileage of the Mini Cooper Countryman, now available only in petrol variants, is around 14.34 kmpl as per ARAI ratings. While this may not be the most fuel-efficient option in its class, the Countrymans performance and driving dynamics make it a worthwhile choice for those who prioritize driving pleasure over absolute fuel economy. For users concerned about running costs, its essential to weigh the fun-to-drive factor against the slightly higher fuel consumption.
