Maruti Swift Volt
General information and overview
The 2024 Maruti Suzuki Swift is the fourth generation of this highly popular hatchback in India. It features a new 1.2-litre three-cylinder engine, which, although less powerful than its predecessor, offers better fuel efficiency. The design has been updated with a more evolutionary approach, retaining the sporty look but with some modern tweaks. The interior is functional, with an all-black theme and adequate storage spaces, but it lacks some of the premium features seen in other models in this segment. Safety has been a major focus, with six airbags, ESC, and other advanced safety features now standard. The driving experience remains one of its strong points, with agile handling and a responsive steering system. However, the rear seat space is limited, and the absence of features like a sunroof and central armrest might be a drawback for some buyers. Overall, the Swift remains a solid choice for those seeking a reliable, fuel-efficient, and fun-to-drive hatchback.
Expert opinion and recommendation
The 2024 Maruti Suzuki Swift is a significant evolution of a beloved hatchback, but it comes with some trade-offs. While it retains its sporty DNA and agile handling, the new 1.2-litre three-cylinder engine, though more fuel-efficient, delivers fewer horsepower compared to its predecessor. The interior, though functional and easy to maintain, lacks the excitement of previous models, with an all-black theme and hard plastics prevalent throughout. Safety features have been significantly upgraded, including six airbags and ESC, which is a major plus. However, the absence of features like a sunroof, central armrest for rear passengers, and a more modern instrument cluster might disappoint some buyers. Overall, it remains a fun-to-drive car, especially with the manual transmission, but its value proposition is somewhat diluted by the higher price point.
Recent news and announcements
The 2024 Maruti Suzuki Swift CNG variant has a claimed fuel economy of around 32.85 km/kg and comes with a 55-litre CNG tank, offering an estimated range of 295 km on a full tank. This makes it highly frugal for city driving. I think the CNG option is a great choice for those looking to save on fuel costs.
The Swift CNG lacks some features available in the petrol variants, such as front fog lamps, a rear parking camera, and cruise control, due to the space taken up by the CNG tank. However, it still offers key features like LED exterior lighting and a 7-inch touchscreen. I believe the trade-offs are reasonable given the fuel efficiency benefits.
Maruti Suzuki has introduced discounts on the higher variants of the Swift, including the ZXI and ZXI Plus trims, with offers up to Rs 89,000. This move is likely to attract more buyers to the already popular hatchback. I believe these discounts will make the Swift an even more compelling choice in its segment.
The Maruti Suzuki Swift CNG variant was launched in October 2024, offering a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine that delivers 70 hp and 102 Nm of peak torque in CNG mode. This variant is priced between Rs 8.20 lakh and Rs 9.20 lakh (ex-showroom) and is aimed at city drivers looking for better fuel efficiency. I think this is a great option for those who frequently drive in urban areas.
The new Swift is priced from Rs 6.49 lakh to Rs 9.64 lakh (ex-showroom), making it competitive in the B2-segment hatchback market. It competes directly with the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios and is also an alternative to micro SUVs like the Hyundai Exter and Tata Punch. I think the pricing is quite aggressive and will help Maruti maintain its market share.
Pricing details and changes
The 2024 Maruti Suzuki Swift in India is priced competitively, but the costs have crept up due to the addition of more safety features and emission compliance. The ex-showroom prices range from approximately 7 lakh to 11 lakh, depending on the variant and transmission choice. On-road prices, including taxes and other charges, can go up to around 9 lakh to 14 lakh. While this places the Swift in a slightly higher price bracket than before, it still offers a compelling package for those prioritizing fuel efficiency, safety, and driving pleasure. However, the increased cost might make some buyers consider options in higher segments or alternative models that offer more features at a similar price.
Fuel efficiency information
The 2024 Maruti Suzuki Swift boasts impressive mileage, with an estimated 25 kmpl, which is a significant selling point in the Indian market where fuel efficiency is a top priority. This makes the Swift an attractive option for daily commuters and those looking to minimize running costs. The real-world fuel efficiency, though slightly lower than the claimed figures, remains commendable, making it a practical choice for both city driving and occasional long trips.

Recently, MSIL unveiled a customized version of their hatchback segment benchmark, Maruti Swift Volt with a custom kit at 2014 Delhi Auto Expo on February 7, 2014. It was also launched at a Maruti Suzuki Delhi dealer, T R Sawhney Motors at a price of INR 2.15lakhs for the custom kit over the INR 7.35lakhs which the new car costs, bringing the overall price to INR 9.50 lakhs, ex-showroom Delhi. The company also announced that this customized version will include the original warranty details, which is a good thing for the Indian customers. The kit gives Swift an exciting, unique and eye-catching design with a few internal cosmetic changes to maintain uniformity. It is primarily designed for the young customers of Swift by giving them an extraordinary experience that other cars lacks by a certain margin. Let's check this hatchback in detail.

Maruti Swift Volt has got a 1248cc, 1.3L, 4-cylinders, 16-valves, DDiS diesel engine with a maximum power of 74bhp at 4,000rpm and a maximum torque of 190Nm at 2,000rpm and is mated with a five speed manual gearbox transmission to give a top speed of above 155kmph and takes less than 12 seconds to reach 0-100kmph acceleration with a mileage of 18-20kmpl in the city conditions and 22-23kmpl on the highways.

Atleast they should have given the 90Bhp engine from SX4 Diesel. I mean its not so hard to just change the FGT to VGT.
