About
The Maruti A-Star Automatic is a compact hatchback designed primarily for urban driving. It features a 1.0-liter K-Series 3-cylinder engine that produces 70hp, which is more than adequate for city driving. The cars interior is well-appointed with features like a simple yet effective console, power windows, and an inbuilt music system. However, the rear seats and boot space are limited, making it less suitable for larger families or those needing ample luggage space. The A-Star AT comes with a 4-speed torque converter gearbox that, while convenient, can be slow in shifting gears. The cars light steering and ABS-equipped brakes make it easy to maneuver in city traffic. Overall, the A-Star Automatic is a good choice for those seeking a hassle-free, fuel-efficient vehicle for daily urban commutes.

Our take on this /// Verdict
The Maruti A-Star Automatic is a viable option for those navigating the congested urban landscapes of India, particularly for drivers who prefer the ease of an automatic transmission. The cars 1.0-liter K-Series engine, although not the most powerful, is refined, fuel-efficient, and more than sufficient for city driving. However, the 4-speed torque converter gearbox can be somewhat sluggish, especially during gear shifts, which may not appeal to driving enthusiasts. The A-Stars compact design and light steering make it ideal for city conditions, but it falls short in terms of rear seat space and boot capacity. For those with back or knee issues, or for beginners, the A-Star AT offers a comfortable and hassle-free driving experience. While it may not be the best choice for long-distance travelers, it is a sensible option for daily urban commutes.
Price
When the Maruti A-Star was launched, the ex-showroom prices in India varied based on the variant. The base model, LXi, was priced around 3.82 lakhs, the VXi around 4.07 lakhs, and the top model, ZXi, around 4.47 lakhs. On-road prices, including taxes and other costs, would typically add another 50,000 to 70,000 to these figures, making the on-road price for the ZXi variant approximately 5.17 lakhs. These prices were competitive and offered good value for money, considering the features like ABS, airbags, power steering, and an inbuilt music system that came with the higher variants.
