Maruti A-Star (New) (2014)

About
The Maruti A-Star (2014) is a compact hatchback designed with city driving in mind. It features a 998 cc K-series petrol engine that produces 67 Bhp and 90 Nm of torque, paired with either a manual or a 4-speed automatic transmission. The car boasts a unique all-round gas damped suspension, which enhances ride comfort and reduces maintenance costs. It has a turning radius of 4.5 meters and a ground clearance of 170 mm, making it suitable for navigating congested city roads and potholes. The A-Star comes with safety features like ABS, EBD, and airbags in the top variants. The interior, though somewhat cramped, includes a dash-mounted tachometer, digital trip meter, and an integrated music system. The cars exterior design is sleek, with features like xenon headlamps and front fog lights. However, the rear legroom and boot space are limited, which might be a consideration for some buyers. Overall, the A-Star is a reliable and fuel-efficient choice for urban driving.

USER OPINION

Our take on this /// Verdict
The Maruti A-Star (2014) is a compact hatchback that offers a mix of city-friendly features and decent performance, but it also comes with some notable drawbacks. The cars 998 cc engine, producing 67 Bhp and 90 Nm of torque, is suitable for quick city drives and short bursts of power, but it lacks the refinement and power needed for highway cruising. The unique all-round gas damped suspension provides a comfortable ride, especially on Indian road conditions. However, the interior space is limited, particularly for rear passengers, and the dashboard height can be an issue for shorter drivers. The car is well-equipped with features like ABS, EBD, and a dash-mounted tachometer, but the overall interior feel is somewhat cramped and less airy compared to its competitors. For those prioritizing fuel efficiency, city maneuverability, and a low maintenance cost, the A-Star could be a viable option, but it may not be the best choice for those seeking spacious interiors or long highway drives.
Price
The Maruti A-Star (2014) was priced starting from around Rs. 3.88 lakh for the base manual variant and went up to Rs. 4.73 lakh for the top automatic variant, ex-showroom. On-road prices varied depending on the city and state, but you could expect to add another Rs. 50,000 to Rs. 70,000 to the ex-showroom price to account for taxes, registration, and other costs. This pricing made the A-Star a competitive option in the compact hatchback segment, offering a balance of features and affordability. However, the prices mentioned are historical and may not reflect current market values if you are considering a used model.
Mileage
Thursday, 21 November 2024 06:06 PM The Maruti A-Star (2014) offers respectable mileage, with the manual variant certified by ARAI to deliver 19 kmpl and the automatic variant at 16.98 kmpl. In real-world conditions, you can expect slightly lower figures, but it remains one of the more fuel-efficient options in its segment. This makes it a good choice for those concerned about running costs, especially for city driving where the A-Stars engine is most efficient.
