Our take on this /// Verdict
The Mahindra Thar 4x4 M2DiCR (Old) is a vehicle that embodies the spirit of off-roading and adventure. With its robust 2523cc diesel engine producing 63 bhp and 182.5 Nm of torque, it is well-suited for those who love to venture off the beaten path. However, its on-tarmac manners leave much to be desired, with a choppy ride and fidgety steering that makes it less comfortable for daily driving. The interior quality, while improved in later models, still lacks in terms of build and materials. Despite these drawbacks, the Thars iconic design, four-wheel drive capability, and mechanical locking rear differential make it a compelling choice for enthusiasts who prioritize off-road performance over everyday comfort.
Price
The Mahindra Thar 4x4 M2DiCR (Old) was priced competitively in the Indian market before its discontinuation. The ex-showroom price for this variant was around Rs. 7.25 lakh in Delhi. When considering the on-road price, you would need to add costs such as registration, insurance, and other local taxes, which could push the total cost to around Rs. 8.5 lakh to Rs. 9 lakh, depending on the state and local regulations. Given its capabilities and the niche it fills, the Thar offered good value for money, especially for those looking for a dedicated off-roader without breaking the bank.

Its 2523cc diesel engine, producing 63 Bhp and 182.5 Nm of torque, made it a favorite for those who love rugged terrain. The vehicle had a ground clearance of 187 mm and a fuel tank capacity of 45 litres. I think its robust build and off-road capabilities made it a standout in its segment.
Tuesday, 15 October 2024 02:24 PM In its heyday, the Mahindra Thar 4x4 M2DiCR was priced at around Rs. 7.25 lakh, making it an affordable option for those seeking a 4x4 SUV. The vehicle came with a 5-speed manual transmission and had a top speed of 138 kmph. Its ARAI certified mileage was 18.06 kmpl. I believe the pricing was one of the key factors that made it appealing to many buyers.
Friday, 20 September 2024 08:42 PM The Mahindra Thar 4x4 M2DiCR featured a leaf spring suspension with shock absorbers and an antiroll bar at the front, and a semi-elliptical leaf spring with a shock absorber at the rear. This setup provided a decent ride quality off-road but was known to be choppy on tarmac. I think this trade-off was acceptable for those prioritizing off-road performance.
Sunday, 25 August 2024 06:36 PM One of the notable features of the Mahindra Thar 4x4 M2DiCR was its mechanical locking rear differential, which made it highly capable in sticky off-road situations. This feature, combined with its shift-on-the-fly four-wheel drive, made it a go-to choice for serious off-roaders. I believe this feature was a game-changer for its time.
Tuesday, 30 July 2024 01:01 PM The Mahindra Thar 4x4 M2DiCR had a seating capacity of 7, with 2 forward-facing and 2 side-facing rear bench seats. However, it lacked modern safety features such as airbags. Despite this, it remained popular for its raw off-road capabilities and retro styling. I think the lack of safety features was a significant drawback, but its off-road prowess compensated for it.

I believe its compact size was an advantage in off-road scenarios.
Monday, 20 May 2024 04:12 PM The Mahindra Thar 4x4 M2DiCR was known for its rugged build and reliability. Owners often praised its ability to handle harsh conditions without significant issues. Its exterior design was praised for its retro and aggressive looks, reminiscent of classic Jeeps. I believe the design was one of its strongest selling points.
Friday, 15 March 2024 07:16 AM Despite being discontinued, the Mahindra Thar 4x4 M2DiCR remains a sought-after vehicle in the used car market, especially among off-road enthusiasts. Its durability and off-road capabilities continue to make it a desirable choice. I think its legacy as a robust off-roader has endured.
Tuesday, 20 February 2024 09:44 PM The Mahindra Thar 4x4 M2DiCR was a competitor to other off-road vehicles like the Force Gurkha. It was praised for its go-anywhere capability and the presence of creature comforts like air-conditioning and a music system in higher variants. I believe it held its ground well against its competitors.
Thursday, 25 January 2024 04:37 PM Mahindra eventually phased out the Thar 4x4 M2DiCR to make way for newer models, including the Thar CRDe and later the all-new Thar launched in 2020. The newer models brought significant improvements in terms of technology, comfort, and safety. I think the transition was necessary to keep up with modern standards.

The new 2015 Mahindra Thar sports smart interiors along with a completely redesigned dashboard, AC controls and a new centre console. Both front and rear seats are comfortable. As compared to previous model, this face-lifted model has got stylish looks and design. The major changes you can see in the interior where you will find a new dash in beige shade which has slots for a 2 Din audio system. The steering wheel is also new. Other facilities added to the SUV include a windshield demister, a lockable glove-box and a 12V charging point. The car has better off road capabilities which differentiate this model from the previous one. On the exterior side, it has also got some changes which comes in the form of a new plastic cladding over the wheel arches. The company has also added new side steps and clear lens headlamps as well. This is all what I saw when I took test drive of this SUV.

Looks Better than the 2014 Model

Before starting my review, I would like to mention here that, I am very passionate of off-roading and Thar is the best vehicle up to date. We have Mahindra 'Thar Diesel Di' in our friend circle, so figure out the changes in 2015 is easy for me. Yesterday I went to showroom to have a glimpse of this SUV. The Mahindra has really done good job on this machine now. The all-new black cladding around wheel arches, alloy wheels and plastic front/ rear bumper is what I first noticed. It was looking sporty. When I get in for a test drive, I was amazed with the interior. Thar embossed on center console, leather on gear knob and silver finish on some parts giving it refreshing look. So, I made my mind and booked the new beast for me.

This is a very good looking SUV but with very basic features so make its features according to its looks or you have to offer customised models for market like 1) mHawk engine for better and smooth drive. 2) Hard roof fore cities for safety and batter cooling with a/c. 3) Also make a five seater model with four doors for daily driving and comfort. 4) Please upgrade its dashboard features and build quality. If all the customers wants some accessories like above than its easy and reliable to choose from company made quality and charge accordingly.

Mahindra Thar is a nice product from M&M but only 63 bhp from 2.5 L engine. M&M should increase it upto 90 or 100 bhp.
