Hyundai Sonata Automatic (Diesel)

About
The Hyundai Sonata Embera diesel, available from 2005 to 2009, was a D-segment luxury sedan that stood out for its comfort, space, and ride quality. It came with a 2.0-liter diesel engine producing 142 horsepower and 323 Nm of torque, paired with either a manual or automatic transmission. The car boasted a spacious and quiet cabin, with tasteful interiors and ample legroom and boot space. It featured automatic climate control, leather seats, and multiple storage compartments, making it a practical choice. However, the soft suspension, while excellent for comfort, compromised on handling and cornering capabilities. Despite this, it was a solid option for those seeking a luxurious and comfortable driving experience, especially at the price point it was offered.

USER OPINION

Our take on this /// Verdict
The Hyundai Sonata Embera diesel automatic, which was available in India from 2005 to 2009, is a mixed bag when it comes to overall performance and driving experience. On the positive side, it offers exceptional comfort and ride quality, making it an excellent choice for those who prioritize being chauffeur-driven or need a lot of space. The cars suspension is highly absorbent at low speeds, handling bumps with ease, and it feels very stable at high speeds. However, the steering lacks feedback and feels soggy, particularly in corners, which detracts from the driving experience. The engine, while smooth and powerful with 142 horsepower, has a narrow power band and requires frequent gear shifts, though the automatic transmission helps mitigate this. Overall, its a great car for comfort but not ideal for enthusiastic drivers.
Price
During its time in the Indian market, the Hyundai Sonata Embera diesel was priced between Rs 14 to 20 lakhs (ex-showroom), depending on the variant and location. In terms of on-road prices, it would have been slightly higher, typically ranging from Rs 16 to 23 lakhs, including taxes and other costs. Given its features, space, and comfort, it was considered good value for money in its segment, especially when compared to competitors like the Honda Accord. However, its important to note that this model is no longer in production or available for purchase new.
Latest Updates
Thursday, 21 November 2024 05:05 AM The Hyundai Sonata, while not commonly available in a diesel automatic variant, has seen significant updates in its recent models. For instance, the 2025 Hyundai Sonata introduces a range of trim levels, but none of these include a diesel engine option. This might be a consideration for buyers in India who often prefer diesel engines for their fuel efficiency.
Monday, 26 August 2024 03:33 PM Hyundai has announced the pricing for the 2025 Sonata, with the base SE trim starting at $26,650. However, this pricing does not include any diesel engine options, which could be a drawback for some potential buyers in India who are looking for a diesel-powered sedan. I believe this omission might affect its appeal in the Indian market.
Tuesday, 20 August 2024 03:39 PM The 2025 Hyundai Sonata features advanced technology, including a 12.3-inch touchscreen and wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, but it lacks a diesel engine option. This technological advancement is great, but the absence of a diesel variant might make it less attractive to Indian buyers who prioritize fuel efficiency.
Thursday, 15 August 2024 12:11 PM Hyundai has reintroduced the SE trim for the 2025 Sonata, which includes several standard features like a 2.5L MPI/GDI 4-cylinder engine and a proximity key with push button start. However, there is no mention of a diesel engine, which could be a missed opportunity in the Indian market.
Thursday, 25 July 2024 08:37 AM The Sonata Hybrid, which is part of the 2025 lineup, offers impressive fuel economy with up to 51 mpg on the highway. While this is great for fuel efficiency, it does not address the demand for a diesel engine in markets like India. I think Hyundai should consider this for future models.
Wednesday, 10 July 2024 03:36 AM The 2025 Hyundai Sonata N Line boasts a powerful 290-hp 2.5L Turbo MPI/GDI 4-cylinder engine, but it does not offer a diesel alternative. This high-performance trim is appealing, but the lack of a diesel option might limit its appeal in certain markets.
Thursday, 20 June 2024 06:50 AM Hyundais focus on hybrid and gasoline engines for the 2025 Sonata is evident, but this strategy may not align with the preferences of Indian buyers who often opt for diesel engines due to their perceived better fuel economy. I believe this could be a strategic oversight.
Wednesday, 15 May 2024 07:48 AM The interior of the 2025 Hyundai Sonata has been praised for its roominess and advanced features, but the absence of a diesel engine option remains a significant gap. This could impact its market share in India where diesel engines are popular.
Wednesday, 10 April 2024 08:23 AM Despite the 2025 Hyundai Sonatas impressive features and design updates, the lack of a diesel automatic variant is notable. This omission might affect its competitiveness in the Indian market where diesel engines are in high demand.
Monday, 25 March 2024 11:51 AM Hyundais decision to not offer a diesel engine in the 2025 Sonata lineup might be seen as a missed opportunity to capture a larger share of the Indian market, where diesel engines are often preferred for their fuel efficiency. I think this could be a significant factor in buyer decisions.
Mileage
Thursday, 21 November 2024 01:39 AM The mileage of the Hyundai Sonata Embera diesel is not its strongest point. Users have reported mileage figures around 7-8 kmpl in city driving and up to 11 kmpl on highways. This is relatively low compared to other diesel sedans in its class, which can be a significant factor for buyers concerned about running costs and fuel efficiency.

Is the Citroen C3 suitable for city driving?
09 January 2024 08:20

Yes, the Citroen C3 is designed with city driving in mind making it an ideal choice for navigating urban environments. It is easy to maneuver through city streets, small parking spaces, and clogged traffic thanks to its small size and agile handling. The automobile is more suited for city driving when its agility is paired with features like a quick steering system. Additionally, the Citroen C3 often comes with a comfortable interior making daily city driving a more enjoyable experience. How is the drive quality of Citroen C3?
09 January 2024 08:17

The C3 soaks up rough roads, potholes, and broken patches in a manner that would make a multiple-time WRC-winning company proud. Which Citroen is! The C3 makes bumps disappear and it doesn’t bob or bounce. The tall sidewalls for the tyres give it added cushioning that lets the C3 just glide over broken roads. It’s absolutely wow on this front! Citroen says that the C3 is meant to be fun to drive too. As it turns out, despite its comfort factor, the C3 isn’t soft and sloppy at high speeds. Sure, the suspension is supple, but it is also controlled. In bends at high speeds, there’s a bit of body roll but then it settles down. It actually feels composed and stable even over 120kmph! So, Citroen’s rally pedigree can be experienced in the way the C3 soaks up bumps and the way it likes to be hustled too.

Which one is the best, Citroen C3 or Toyota Glanza?
09 January 2024 08:16

While each vehicle excels in its own right, the Citroen C3 offers the functionality and room of a compact SUV for the cost of a hatchback that is comfortable on a range of surfaces. But it also lacks several basic equipment such as motorized adjustable mirrors, windshield wipers, and other creature conveniences to which we have grown accustomed from its competition. On the other hand, if you are looking for a hatch that satisfies a lot of needs the Glanza is an excellent option. It has more capacity than several more costly sedans an efficient engine selection, and a respectable features list. Therefore, you can choose the Glanza if a roomy cabin, good features, fuel economy, and power output are your top objectives.

Which car is better, Citroen C3 or Maruti Wagon R?
09 January 2024 08:13

Both vehicles excel in their own fields, but the Citroen C3 offers the room and functionality of a compact SUV for the cost of a hatchback that is comfortable on a range of surfaces. However, it is also devoid of many creature conveniences that its competitors have made us accustomed to, such as electrically adjustable mirrors and windshield wipers. Maruti Suzuki Wagon R, on the other hand, is the perfect little family vehicle. It has two engine options is efficient, practical, and capacious. It also has a convenient automatic transmission. Additionally we advise you to do a test drive to gain a better idea of compatibility and comfort when driving.
